He needs 12,000 rushing yards to get in the HOF. So he's about 1,000 short. Some more TD's will help his case as well. It appears he has one good year left in his career and then maybe a .limited role year.

People that feel like they have a good grasp of the NFL always praise Gore because he's always been a bit of a sleeper. I think a lot of the voters will have been rooting for Gore as one of "their guys," for many years, and he'll get in because he has quietly and humbly fought to achieve a great career.

Take away the guys who are mostly returns or completely returns and probably bumps him up to 30-35th, do you have the list?
Yds from scrimmage is the better stat, Gore is 29th with a chance to move into the top 20 after next season, frustrating that HaRoman refused to use him as a receiver, saw it all the way up until the last game when fricking Antonio Smith off the street was getting a screen called for him instead of Gore.

Thank you. Yeah 29th all time without return men and there isn't a place for him? I think him, Justin Smith and Bryant Young should all get in eventually but it might take many many years. I'd like to see one mroe year out of Gore and Smith to take away any doubt.

i think you guys are putting a lot into stats and not a lot into (possibly) completing a full career with one team AND being a top 20 RB (possibly top 15 if he stays another year)

Frank puts up another 1000 yd season he will be hard to deny. His work ethic vision and passion for the game has carried him to a stellar career on a oftentimes bad team. I'm still sore we didn't get him a rimg

No, not really, a great player, on bad teams, never won a ring, I'd see Rodger Craig in the hall first.

Homer Pick-Absolutely
Realitywise-No, unfortunately but that depends on what else he does over the next season or two. I'd say with another 1,300 yards rushing, getting him into the Top 10 all time, his chances would be well improved for it.

Even that isnt a guarantee. Bettis had over 13,000 yards rushing and he's been passed up year after year.

Bettis in his prime years were: 126 starts, 10,876 yards (4.0 y/c) and 53 TDs. His last 4 years (were he got to 13,000) he was a part time runner: 2,786 yards (3.5 y/c).

I've read over the years that Bettis is being kept out because of his sub 4 ypc. Bettis will make it eventually though, possibly even this year. Curtis Martin got in with a 4.0 ypc, but of course the 4 in front looks alot better than a 3.
Statistically this will be Gore's biggest selling point if he can keep his ypc around 4.5.

Frank's a tough call. Outside of his 2nd year in the league, he's never really had a spectacular season. His achievement is more about consistent, sold production. His career ypc is in the top 10 which means a lot, but he's done it literally by averaging 4.5 a carry which is pretty unique. However, when you consider his all around game, love for the game , longevity and consistency, how many Rbs would you draft ahead of him to start and build a team around. Answer: not many. There are a large number of backs with a couple of flash in the pan years, but few match his consistency year by year and down by down. With that said, there are a lot of guys I would take over Frank if I need a back for one or two years.

Most guys either rely on stats, or tittles, I have my own totally odd way of determining HOFers. Imagine this, you have a limited amount of time to tell the someone about the NFL, and all the games, the championships, and the players. Say an hour, or maybe it's movie, or 3 page written essay, what ever, you get my point.
Okay, when you tell this story, is the player in question part of it? Could you tell the story without them? If you can tell the story with out them, then they were not important to that era, then I look at stats, and championships, but first I try to tell the story.
If you look at the last decade of the NFL, can you tell the story with out Frank Gore? I think you can, mind you this is not the Niner HOF, cause he is in there. SO for me, Frank doesn't pass the first test.

Meh, there's lots of players in the HOF who don't fit that category.

Yup, and I wouldn't have voted for them!
