Last I checked Trent works for Jed. I also believe Paraag has quite a bit of say in things as well

Pep would be a decent choice. But if I could pick 1 and knew Fangio & DLine coach Tsula were locks of staying I would go with Kyle Shanahan hoping he brought his dad in as OC.

I find it humerus people think that Trent has actual power over the coach when the coach makes at least twice as much as Trent.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
When Harbaugh leaves #49ers, top in-house candidate is DL coach Jim Tomsula. Also look for young OC like Adam Gase and Josh McDaniels

Bring Josh McDaniels in. The good thing is he will either be an immediate success or he will fold from the pressure and implode like a supernova if he fails, which will make firing him quick and easy, just like Denver.
If we bring in on of these old school coaches like Holmgren or Shannahan they will milk 3-4 years before we make a move on them. With McDaniels max 2 years if he fails. However he very well can succeed. Great upside imo.

No way to we want a DC to take over the HC job. We want a HC who is also the OC...like Walsh, bellichek, payton, etc. But the choices I would like to see are the OC/HC of Washington via boise state(Peterson), OC/HC of Baylor, TCU, Fla State, maybe ohio state, in addition to NE OC and Denvers' OC. But make it an OC who is currently also the HC or is the OC in a pro team. Hadn't thot about sean payton. Which reminds me, our new HC should have his own pick for his Qb. I don' think Kap makes that cut and gets cut or traded elsewhere.

I hadn't really considered Kyle Shanahan before this thread, but he is certainly an interesting candidate. I find it interesting that the most popular candidates in this thread all favor zone schemes.
For my money, you go Kubiak to play it safe or Gase, if you're unafraid of the risk and looking to score big. I don't think the risk is really that high, as long as we can keep most of the defensive coaching staff together. How could the offense give us much less?
For all of the people preaching doom and gloom after Harbaugh leaves, that has simply never happened in his career:
USD went 10-2 and 11-1 after he left. They had a couple rough years after that, as Harbaugh's recruiting classes left, but that's more about his "enthusiasm unknown to mankind" affecting recruiting, not the actual coaching. Fact is, those small school coaches were getting very similar results, as long as the roster featured similar talent. FWIW, thy're back to 9-2 and 8-3 these days.
Stanford went 11-2, 12-2, and 11-3 the three years after he left. This year was a mess for them, but it was for Harbaugh, too. Again, similar results with similar talent. Shaw is being considered (again) as NFL HC material.
I think it is harder to be competetive at a coaching level in the NCAA (too many positions, not enough difference-makers at HC) than in the NFL, which attracts the most competitive, talented, and motivated candidates.

If Josh McDaniels now calls to say he is interested in taking the 49ers head coaching job, I hope they tell him they have concerns about him being a dud!

Just an FYI Belichick was a defensive coach. Granted now he seems more offensive but before he got to NE he had no offensive coaching experience.

Whoever the new HC is, he'll be under tremendous pressure from the millisecond his pen leaves the contract he signs.
There will be no grace period or excuses tolerated.
He must show improvement from day 1.
First, he'll have to get "Buy-In" from the any remaining coaching staff. I'm hoping Vic, Donatell want to stay.
2nd, He'll have to come in with a NEW offensive scheme that can score points and NOTTTTTTTTTT keep games close.
3rd, He'll have to create his own brand-identity that inspires confidence. He'l be following a VERY tough act in that department.

Yeah, I can't really get behind him as an option. His offenses have been good, for sure. He just seems so childish and weak-minded. Maturity is a process, to be sure, but how much of his issues were from immaturity, and how much were due to innate character flaws? I hope we aren't the team to find out.

I say, Mike Holmgren as HC and Shanahan as the OC and bring Mooch or Gruden in as QB coach....just a thought....
