If Jim Harbaugh leaves, who do you want as the next coach of the 49ers(All Coaching Rumors

Marc Trestman, the "QB Guru" will be fired from Chicago. Steve Young credits him to helping him develop into a QB.

Definitely with Sofa ....no mangini. Get him off the team. How did he work out this yr, anyway? One other thing. The HC must be an OC, so we are talking about a HC/OC and to the list at start of thread I would add:

OC/HC of Oregon, TCU, Baylor, Fla State, Not sure about what's his face at Ohio State, Peterson at Washington formerly OC/HC at Boise state...actually with the list at start of thread and these guys, plus some other hot shot OCs in college, there is lots of great talent out there. Just not harbaugh, roman nor mangini. Also, Vic has been great but HC has to be an OC.

And there better be no "IF harbaugh leaves". He better be gone., and I mean GONE. AMF., and take your tool roman with you.

Either Fangio, if he would even want this offensive overhaul or Kyle Shanahan, who is among the most creative offensive minds without the Josh McDaniel baggage.

Whatever their decision is they need to be prompt with it. We dont need this thing to drag on 5 or 6 weeks and end up having to settle for a HC instead of getting the guy we want as HC.

Seely worked with him in NE and was an assistant HC and ST coach on his Cleveland staff.

It just dawned on me that this whole feud is ego induced. Baalke and Harbaugh are clashing because he wants the ability to pick the players, his beef with Jed is over the contract. It could be a simple case of buyers remorse. What scares me is the promote from within talk. It has to be a forward thinking offensive minded coach. Defensive guys are too conservative and that gets you beat.

Agree completely! I really don't believe there is an offensive mind on this team to promote! Some want Rathman but what has he shown about developing an offense? And he would be the most likely candiate to me! Ego is usually the problem...if money is the underlying problem then the Yorks are still in a game where they don't belong. If you can't afford the ante get out of the game!

I've been back and forth on Jim. TB said he is a good football coach but the offense this year has been unacceptable as Jed said. Now is VD hurt? Or has he been half a$$ing it? Coach can't be held liable for two holdouts on offense and the pitiful return on dividends they've yielded. I heard one too many complaints from Staley Gore Crabtree Boldin about scheme which leads me to question players faith on offense in HaRoman. What is it? Is it the players whiny attitudes and lack of effort or is it an uninspired offensive scheme at fault here? Or is it both? Either way I agree with Jed. It is unacceptable! The defense has setbacks as well such as losing 3 All Pro players yet they are top three in the NFL! Jim started off almost winning the chip his very first year and now we are at this point year four where we had our most talented team yet but had catastrophic injuries. Do we gamble that a healthy team fixes all next year or do we need a new coach with a new offensive scheme. Either way I don't know how we can blame the GM or the owner for this team underperforming when they had all they needed to win and more. We had bad injury luck so maybe it is that or maybe it is time for change

I think Trestman will be perceived as a failure as an NFL HC. He'll need to rebuild his reputation before he gets another shot, or go back the the CFL....

.... or become the OC for whoever our next HC is.

Reminds me of Norv Turner somewhat - Great Assistant, not so hot as the head Honcho.

Reminds me of Norv Turner somewhat - Great Assistant, not so hot as the head Honcho.

Dont think he has the personality for it. He's had a ton of head coach interviews before this and was always turned down. He's pretty much the exact opposite of Harbaugh in demeanor.

I think a harbaugh/trestman combo would've been great. And I say this as not the biggest trestman fan. I ran trestman's splits as a HC/OC and in 10 seasons he had only had 3 seasons in which he ran the ball at least 40% ('89, '96 & '03). The most he ever ran the ball was 44% of the time in 1989. I think when you start getting into 60/40 splits either way it becomes too much of a tell.

It would seem like each of them would play nicely off of each other. Jim needs to step back and give his offense to an OC.

If it was up to me for 2015, I'd take jim at HC and Marty morreingwheg at OC. Jim just run the team let Marty run offense and Vic run defense.

Would be really mad if Harbaugh leaves, ends up in Oakland and hires Trestman as his OC.


All he really needs with the 49ers is somewhat better offensive output, doesn't have to be great, just average would do.
