Chris Ault, I'd rather have a coach connected with Kap and knows how to utilize this offense around him.

Gruden basically imploded the Bucs organization and they haven't been the same since.....he's one of the last guys I want around this team. Gruden and Allen left Tampa Bay pretty much in the same shape that Donahue and Erickson did with the 49ers.

If you want to see Baalke replaced with Bruce Allen whose forte is screwing up.......Gruden is a good choice.

But a rift between Gruden and then-general manager Rich McKay developed in 2003 and ended with McKay accepting a similar position with the Atlanta Falcons with a few weeks remaining in the season.

Gruden was responsible for the hiring of Allen, whom he had worked with at Oakland. But Allen's strength was salary cap management, not player personnel, and the talent level may have dipped as a result.

Rich McKay pretty much built that entire Superbowl winning Bucs team....and then got booted because Gruden didn't like him up in his business.

"How do you build a championship team with all the inconsistency?' receiver Mike Clayton said.

"You have to do it the right way. I've always been a person who feels like you reap what you sow. You have to treat people fairly.'

When asked what he wished Gruden would've done differently, Clayton said, "It's about showing more confidence in your players. He was kind of a turncoat. He'd tell you one thing and then do something else.''

There are some good lessons in there. Every great coach needs a great personnel guy. Check! Every great coach needs a great FO (owner, personnel, salary-cap guy, etc.). Check!

Does Chucky want control over personnel at this stage? Probably not...he's had several years away from the game (ala Lloyd, Moss, etc.) and men typically become humble over time the further they are away from the game.

IF, Chucky wants to come "home" JUST to coach the team but focus 90% on offense, I can't think of too many better coaches for CK or this offensive team. These fat b*****ds (esp. the OL) NEED accountability and Chucky will discipline the sh!t out of them. AND Chucky WILL make personnel changes if they don't. When was the last time you saw HaRoman make a personnel change on offense?

There will be some other great candidates out there as well and there will NOT be a more attractive job so Baalke will just need to find the right fit. I trust him.

Oh contraire WRT Tomsula...he's plain & simple a helluva football coach. Just because you promote a defensive coach to the top spot doesn't mean your offense will suffer...shoot, with Harbaugh and his hand-picked OC from Stanford, look at what's happened. Do you really think Tomsula wouldn't hire a top OC to turn his offense around? Look at Belichick...his background is on defense...but he hires top flight OC's and acquires the players and other coaches to make it great. If Harbaugh goes, we don't know how many of the current coaches would stay. It'd be a crying shame to lose Fangio, Tomsula, et al. They're right at the top of their games...I don't see Fangio as a head coach...don't think he wants to be one. Back to Tomsula, sure he's only had 1 game as an NFL head coach...but had some great experience as a DC and head coach in NFL-E. If you can really coach, you can be successful at any level and if Harbaugh leaves, I'd love to see JT get his shot. I guarantee you this...if he's promoted, his players will rally around him and get back to playoff football. He knows the players and coaches and would be able to hit the ground running.

We could make Tomsula our HC and give Baalke the say over OC but then I'm afraid he would promote Mangini...

1/ Don't hire Gruden because he ruined Tampa Bay--
Just look at his coaching with the RAIDERS (would have been in Super Bowl if not for the stupid Tuck Rule), and won a Super Bowl with Tampa. Forget his GM crap.

Holmgren in the booth would be ok. Not sure about HC right now.

How do you promote Tomsula above Fangio and expect Fangio to stick around? Way to break the defense, the ONLY unit that was worth a **** all year. That is a terrible idea.

Who is the OC? Saying Tomaula will "find a top OC" is a stretch.

Besides, everyone knows what happens to good offensive coordinators... they leave and become head coaches elsewhere.

Tomsula would be a giant mistake. We need an offensive coach that can revitalize/fix Kaep and the offense. Tomsula can do neither. He would be relying on others to do that for him.

So keeping Tomsula in his place is the best thing for this team. He can keep doing what he's been doing while we find a coach that can get the offense into playoff-shape.

We need a coach that breathes X's & O's on offense, not a guy that is yelling for his players to "bludgeon" their opponents. I like Tomaula a lot in his role, but if rather have an offensive guru that's accountable for the offensive production of this team.

Agree unless Fangio doesn't want to be promoted. But it seems convoluted. Defense is great so lets go defense! The team needs an offensive shot in the arm, not tampering with the defensive structure.

Why would fans object to Gruden? Nobody loves this team and franchise more than Gruden. The one thing we're missing here IS the WCO and that is not only his expertise but his passion. He can not only install the WCO properly but also teach it's principles which is completely lacking here now in every WCO design. Game planning, exploiting weakness, major focus on rhythm, QB, RB and OL-friendly, etc.

He already knows how to work off a great defense like we have AND he is a big ST's guy so you can expect more focus there vs. the vanilla crap we've seen here over the years.

Also, the one thing CK really needs is a disciplined coach who can really teach him how to be a QB and one that will push him with discipline and not let up. He'll groom the #2 as hard as the #1 as well.

Equally important is he has the energy and work ethic himself to become a legend back at "home." He and guys like Holmgren probably ARE salivating just thinking about what they can do with CK (ala Steve Young), these offensive weapons already here, but in SF alone, with a new stadium, with a great GM in Baalke, and an owner willing to accept responsibility for failure and willing to make changes for the better, etc.
