If Jim Harbaugh leaves, who do you want as the next coach of the 49ers(All Coaching Rumors

Here's the thing, 6 years of NFL experience isn't enough, but Gus Malzahn being a college coach for less time than Gase has been in the NFL is sufficient.

Not sure if he's serious or just trolling errybody up in here.
I'm still skeptical about Gase. Peyton is the one who really runs that show and calls his own plays at the line of scrimmage, so you don't really know how effective Gase is.

Meanwhile Pep Hamilton has implemented the best and most explosive offense in football. If you appreciate intricate passing scheme, you need to look at what the Colts are doing!

Quote: "He's such a creative playcaller and play designer," Colts backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said. "He can change on the fly instantly. He likes to be able to call plays in all formations from all personnel groups at the line of scrimmage in a short amount of time."

"I would say this, on our hot streak, he's called great games," Hasselbeck said. "The first half against Houston was amazing. He had [Texans defensive coordinator] Romeo Crennel on his heels. That's hard to do because he's one of the best defensive coaches.

"I've been around a lot of different coaches and you can tell when a guy has a bright future. Pep is that guy. It'll be a short amount of time before he's a head coach somewhere, wherever he chooses. Pro or college will be his call on what he wants."

Matt Hasselbeck grew up in the WCO, do you need to be any more convinced?!

He was on the Detroit staff for a lot longer than that and was pretty much the de-facto QB coach in 2006 since Marinelli didn't want to hire someone with so little experience.

Manning best season was in 2004 not 2013, where he had a 121 QB rating (6 points higher then 2013), averaged 9.2 yards per attempt (almost 1 yard more then 2013) with 49 touchdowns despite having 162 less pass attempts then 2013.

You're right, throwing for 5,500 yards and 55 TD's, even though they were career marks for Peyton and a new NFL record. was nothing special.

Josh McDaniels was also the next great thing who waited for what he thought was the perfect opportunity. He failed in Denver, then failed as the OC in St Louis and then decided to go back to NE where shockingly he looks good again. So he was a genius in NE, then he wasn't a genius in Denver or St Louis and now once again he is a genius in NE.

Shanahan got s**t canned as the coach of the Raiders, ended up with the 49ers where he looked at a genius at OC while calling plays for Steve Young, Jerry Rice..etc....ended up as a head coach yet again and won a Superbowl. Its nuts how these things work out, but keep grasping at straws.

Also no it is not asinine to think coordinator who has a top 5 QB in NFL history might be overvalued and look better then they are. If you told me Peyton Manning would be coming with him to be his QB maybe i would feel better about him maybe being the next head coach. But Manning will most likely retire a Bronco and Gase will have to make Kap work. And i have seen nothing to make me think he is the guy for that job.

I'm sure Gus Malzahn's long background of coaching in the NFL clearly makes him a better candidate than Gase.

6 years as an actual NFL coach and only two as an OC isn't what i call lots of NFL expedience.

I would hope the 49ers would be smart enough not to go that route.

Pete Carroll was a retread. So was Dick Vermiel. I can get behind a successful OC with a bold offensive vision, but let's not pretend that isn't a bit of a crap shoot. It's not like players wouldn't listen to Mike Holmgren. He has three rings - one as QB coach, one as OC and one as HC. And a Mike Holmgren might be a little less of a crap shoot because you know he's up to the job of running the entire team. The other thing to keep in mind is that if you bring Holmgren in, you have a better chance of retaining Fangio than if you bring a young guy in.

His system worked in high school, low level college (Arkansas St.), mid level college (Tulsa) and his offense helped Auburn get to two National Title games (winning one) and got Cam Newton the Heisman trophy.

So wait, you're bashing proven NFL coaches but want a guy who has never so much as called a single snap in the NFL, who was coaching high school when Gase and McDaniels were already working in the NFL. Makes sense.

Well actually Malzahn was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas when Adam Gase was just an offensive assistant (whatever that means) for Detroit. But at lest Malzahn has been a head coach, something Adam Gase has never been. But i guess being an OC for two years is enough proof he is the next great NFL coach.

A few interviews

Gase / Fangio / Baalke would be excellent for the future of this team.

So wait, Adam Gase had a position in the NFL while Malzahn was coaching high school football.....you don't say.
Bill Cowher cause he has a funny looking chin.
I have always liked Holmgren but he would likely not want to defer to Baalke...which would create some difficulty. If he could come in as HC/HOF with Baalke maintaining the GM position then maybe. The second problem would be finding an OC who could be trained by Holmgren to take over when he retires.

A guy like Holmgren might be up for retooling a very good team and then stepping aside. Not sure about his health or what he would think of Kaepernick.

An OC actually sticking with what is working in a game..........even if it isn't exactly what people expect from that offense....

What does that feel like.

Just admit you were wrong instead of trying to shoehorn in something to make a point.

When did i say it wasn't special? It was a great year. You said it was his best year ever. I was just pointing out you were wrong.

Oh yes. It worked out well for Shanahan. That means it has to work out for McDaniels. Great logic on that one!

I'm sure Gus Malzahn's long background of coaching in the NFL clearly makes him a better candidate than Gase.

Well he is a better candidate then Gase. But hey thats just me. You clearly love Gase. More power to you. I just happen to disagree with it.

You certainly would have to worry about that relationship considering Holmgren's past. But, I've read that Holmgren has an itch to just coach and not bother with all of the other things. His health is fine. He's 66 and in good shape. He's five years younger than Parcells was when Baalke was wanting him to come to the team. And again, Fangio definitely respects Holmgren as an elder statesman of NFL coaches and I think it could be easier to retain Fangio with a guy like Holmgren coming in.

Just throwing this out there. Perhaps the 'mastermind' of the defense is Donatell, not Fangio. If that's true, which I don't know, but it is a possibility, then maybe bring in any offensive minded head coach, regardless of whether Fangio can be retained, and promote Donatell to DC. The reason I think this is because the strength of the 49er defense is the multiple looks that the secondary can give to the opposing QB. That shouts Donatell just as much, if not more, than Fangio. If Fangio were to bolt because he didn't like the new head coach, then I think the 49ers will be fine as long as Tomsula and Donatell stay on the staff.
