Great post as always Marvin...your post along with the game film analysis is by far my favorite threads.

For the first time in the Kap era, I'm a little down on the kid. I'm not ready to throw him out like many fans but I do recognize that something is seriously wrong. Read somewhere else that mention his confidence. Kap doesn't look comfortable anymore and his confidence is shot!

At first, the pick on the first play didn't bother me but after thl break down, boy did he miss that. Question though: Does Harbaugh & Roman script there plays? I would think if they did, they drill it in him to at least hit miller. And we've seen Kap make this throw a million times. He did it regularly last year when we didn't have much of a receiving core.

Gotta give the Raiders some credit. They played their butts off yesterday. They really didn't look like a 1-11 team at all.

Next...if Harbs stays, he really has to decide what type of offense he wants to run. Either spread it out or go power. It seems rather confusing to do both right now.

What's interesting is the front office wants to get rid of a guy that knows how to win because he's having a bad SEASON?? Our offense has been caught up to but that doesn't mean he can't and won't make adjustments, he didn't get here by not adjusting. just like the article stated, the offense was different at Stanford than at USD. We have a coach and QB that we have watched win when they shouldn't and do some amazing things in between. We keep saying Kaep has regressed when in fact the offense has just been caught up to. He could absolutely play better but a second year starter typically doesn't have the answers. There's a reason no one runs the same WCO offense Walsh ran, it's because teams figured it out. What can't be figured out is a good run game, execution, controlling the clock and not turning the ball over. We need to trust him and let him fix whats broken. If we let this guy go my fear is we will be cellar dwellers all over again and every team in the league is praying we do let him go.

I think the link Marvin posted is a great read and touches on these questions.

so, does anyone know why Kaep and Boone were screaming at each other at one point??

I remember this happening, but don't remember when. What quarter was it and what happened before this?

i think it had to do with once again the plays not getting off in time...not sure though why he was yelling at Boone...but was saying something of the effect that "you need to call it out f*cking quicker" or something.

What's funny is Carr yelled at his center yesterday for a delay of game and fans (Kaep haters) on here called it 'passion and energy'. Wtf.

whiners gonna whine.
Yes we've hit rock bottom, but after reading Marvin's post, I feel like the way out is a small climb away. It's not like we're done for for a long ass time, like the "Raiders". We do have a lot of young talent on the team, and one of the best GMs in the game. Our future is bright.
awesome post marvin 49 been a niner fan since 1975 everyone forgets even montana had up and down years kaep got us to the cg 3 times one superdowl yes a loss butt got there. the real problem ol and conservative play calling dont give up guys and gals yes this season blows but we have alot of young talent just need a coach and coordinator who goes for the kill instead of winning by 3 pointsi still think we need to draft a qb someone to push kaep but i will always believe in my niners and will stand by them no matter what

Kaepernick did not get us to 3 Championship Games. The coach that "[doesn't] go for the kill instead of winning by 3 points" got us to 3 Championship Games

Totally agree with point 2. Kap deserves criticism for his poor play, but most of his critics do not understand the concepts this offense is built on. He's a single read QB because this offense handcuffs him to be one. Expecting him to go through progression reads is impossible. You cannot operate outside the parameters of the offense. There are no progressions, and this was the case with Alex as well. Only difference is that this offense is 4 years old, defenses adapted, and this philosophy has been exposed for the gimmick it is. Harbaugh is incapable of changing the offense, he's married to it, and that's why management is about to show him the door.

There are progressions..... You're quite wrong about that.. That 3rd down to crabs was all design. Kap just sticks to his first read and has trouble getting through them.

No. There is a difference between coverage reads and progression reads. What the 49ers do is heavily based on coverage read. That's why we wind the playclock down to zero nearly every play. We're trying to get the defense to declare their intent and give the QB an easier, defined single read.

I fault Kap for not taking checkdowns when it's open. He's clearly pressing trying to make something happen down the field, but this offense does not contain real progressions to cycle through and find down field.

This scheme has been figured out. Defenses are now deceiving us, showing dummy shifts and coverages. Then after we "kill" or "roll" they play their real coverage at the snap of the ball. Without progression reads, this offense is easily defeated post-snap, as the players do not have the freedom to deviate from the pre-snap single read unless Kap makes a completely improvised play. There is no real passing game structure for progressions.

If anything, this offense has confused our own players more than the defense. This has been clear after hearing recent comments from Bruce Miller, Frank Gore, Joe Staley, and others. They've admitted as much.

Annnnnnd, this. No question. Unable to adapt in game, game to game or even season to season. The WZ could stop our offense.

Again, there are STILL progressions to go through. But he's not good at that. Because that is not a FOCUS.

To see them perform and allow themselves to get distracted and play that poorly and have that little effort is the most disturbing thing for me.

To me, the great teams, I dont care if the owner and coach don't get along, I dont care if the general manager comes around at all. We take care of business. We might get beat, but we are going to be a tough out always.

That was the most disappointing thing about yesterday.
The team can get a new coach, OC, different receivers, different scheme, does that mean a new Kap? Playing QB in the NFL is a chess game, thinking many moves ahead, anticipating defensive positioning, seeing the whole board. The answer is to simplify the offense for their QB, only problem is that the defenses aren't going to simplify their schemes. Playing QB in the NFL is a head game. Athleticism and a strong arm are good for a season or two. The fans are burning Kap's jersey on the streets of SF, will he rise from the ashes? This fan doesn't think so.
