We have 83 players actually on Active 90 man. Of those, we have Culliver, Willis, Hunter, Williams, and Patton either yet to play, or unable to play.

I dont see Willis playing in any preseason game, so realistically we will have between 68-71 healthy to play for the last game. I imagine 4th game, no starters play, only backups, so we need to keep at least 6 backup OL, in case of an injury.

Lets look at numbers, at who wouldn't play against SD.

QB kaepernick
RB Gore, Hunter
WR Boldin
TE Davis
OL Goodwin, Staley, Davis, Boone, Iupati
DL Justin, McDonald, Ian, Dorsey
OLB Brooks, Aldon
CB Rogers, Brown
SS Whitner

Of course, Jennings, Lee and Dawson would have to play, I think we may stick with Schmidt till final cuts, to be safe. Maybe also McDermott, though I can see him cut on the 27th. TE McDonald may not play to be safe.

I would consider these guys locked in for 75 man

QB Kaep, McCoy, Tolzien, Daniels
RB Gore, Hunter, James, Dixon
FB Miller
WR Boldin, Moore, Williams, AJ, Patton, Collie, Hall
TE Davis, McDonald, Celek, Gray
C Goodwin, Kilgore
OG Boone, Iupati, Looney, Snyder
OT Staley, Davis, Wiggins, Bykowski
DE Smith, McDonald, Dobbs, Tukuafu
NT Ian, Dorsey
OLB Ahmad, Aldon, Haralson, Lemonier, Skuta, C.Johnson
ILB Willis, Bowman, Wilhoite, Moody
CB Rogers, Brown, Nnamdi, Cox, Brock, Morris, Cooper, Culliver(IR likely at final cuts)
S Reid, Whitner, Spillman, Dahl, Robinson
ST Jennings, Lee, Dawson
PUP Manningham, Crabtree
NFI Marquardt, Carradine, Dial, Wright, Lattimore

That is a total of 69 spots locked in. I don't see a CB cut, especially if Brown, Rogers sit game 4, and maybe Nnamdi if he has won a spot.

That leaves the following players up for cuts.

RB Hampton, Harper
FB Schepler
WR Hawkins, Jacobs, Osgood, Lockette
OL Omamaeh, Netter, Tribue
DE Jerod-Eddie, Okoye
NT Divens, Purcell
ILB Johnson, Stupar
K/P Schmidt
S McBath, Ventrone, Thomas
LS McDermott

Thats 21 players, plus the 69 locks equals the 90 man roster.

Do we keep both specialists? Doubt it, since Jennings is more than capable of going for the game. Schmidt I would keep, keeps Lee and Dawson's legs fresh.

If it was me, I would cut the following.

RB Harper
FB Schepler
WR Hawkins
WR Jacobs
OL Omameh
OL Tribue
OL Netter
NT Purcell
ILB Johnson
ILB Stupar
S Ventrone
S Thomas
S McBath
LS McDermott

I cut the FB, because I think Gray could play FB in game 4 if needed.

The last spot is between, Schmidt, and either Osgood or Lockette. I think keeping Divens allows Dorsey and Ian to sit game 4.

Looks good to me, but if we cut all those O-lineman at once we might not have enough for the 4th game if someone gets hurt lol. That would be interesting. With the way they've played we might as well play with 4.

I rethought it, I would keep Netter, and cut Osgood. So we have an extra OL for SD game. Would be Wiggins, Bykowski at Tackle, Netter, Looney, and Snyder at OG, and Kilgore at C. Snyder could easily play C if need be.
The very first cut I would make is Omameh.....

it kind of depresses me that baalke and coaches decided this stiff was worthy in the first place.

Thanks a lot Omameh
I know we are ok at ILB but Stupar did some nice stuff against KC. I would give him a little longer.

The others? Meh.
That's the thing some times we forget on that first cut they need enough guys to field a team for that last game and since the 4th game the starters don't really play they need a 2nd and 3rd string. So in the past I'm sure guys have stuck around to help field a team.

I would say the guys who have done the least or worst. Again might have to keep some of them to field a team.
RB Harper or Hampton, FB Schepler, WR Hawkins, OL Omameh, OL Tribue, ILB Johnson, S Ventrone, S McBath (man did he disappear), LS McDermott possibly WR Osgood (again 10 years 44 rec 749 yards 5tds, moore 7 years younger, better wr, can be st guy), DL Okoye (if it was up to me), etc.
Guys who should get a lot of time in game 4:
-Gray (and Celek), give these time at FB (HB) as well, throw some passes their way. get a good look at Gray to see if he can beat out celek
-Wilhoite/Moody seem to have proven themselves. either give them more experience or let stupar show if hes PS worthy.
-Kenny Wiggins, Joe Looney, Bykowski... Wiggins probably won't make roster. Looney/Bykowski need all the work he can get
-BJ Daniels at least 2 quarters if I was in charge. Give McCoy 1st, Daniels 2nd 3rd, Tolzien 4th (Guess depends on how they do in game 3)
- Eric Reid, I would let him play like 3 quarters to get him ready to start week 1 if that is the plan
- Give Cam Johnson like a half at least... maybe let him start, then Skuta rest of game (at worst Johnson PS again)
-Okoye (if not already cut), Purcell, Jerod-Eddie, Divens... see if any is worth keeping on roster as 7th guy if Carradine/Dial go to PUP
- If Patton is good to go give him 3 quarters at least imo. guy needs the game reps. Jenkins, Collie, Lockette, Hall as well. I would use those 5 most of the game if Moore is a lock. Need to get Patton ready. Need to give Collie, Hall, Lockette chance at team. Maybe Jacobs as well but not sure we should show him off too much if we want him on the PS.
-CBs, would like to see Morris, Cooper get a lot of time. Brock as well.... seems like we have 5 guys who are locks: brown,rogers,asomugha,cox,brock... will be interesting to see if we keep 6 and if we do is it Wright, Cooper or the long shot Morris.
-Test Spillman, Dahl, Thomas at SS see if any have future there
- Colin Schmidt (let lee rest)

Agree. Stupar played great, while Skuta's play dropped off. Those two should stick around and fight it out.

Stupar's first game wasnt good but 2nd game was much better. Skuta is an OLB and Stupar is an ILB so they aren't competing against each other really. Seems like Wilhoite and Moody have 3 and 4 ILB spots locked up. Stupar is likely playing for a PS spot.

This brings your list to what I would think will happen! Osgood deserves a chance to catch on elsewhere and Netter is thought to be a pretty decent project for PS...if he has eligibility. So my philosophy would be to try and keep guys who may be PS players rather than those (particularly vets) who would be snatched up quickly by other teams, but have no chance to stick on the final roster.

I would think it would be good to make the decision on the back up QB before the 4th game. At this point in time, it's not clear that a guy like Tolzien would be an upgrade over what everyone else has for back ups. If you exposed Daniels, someone might take him and put them on their PS later.

Johnson and Stupar would definitely draw early interest from other teams, too.

I thought Bykowski was injured too?
