Looks like the Niners have virtually zero cap room for 2013. There will undoubtedly be lots of casualties as a result. Who should the Niners get rid of? Can we afford to keep anyone? Here are my thoughts:
Guys that should be cut or not re-signed after the season is over:
1. Alex Smith (obvious. He is expendable with Kaepernick at the helm)
2. David Akers (too expensive for a kicker. His current salary is based on last year's performance, which appears to have been a fluke).
3. Carlos Rogers (He has been solid for us but he is getting old and his performance has been declining. Cut him loose now or wait until old age REALLY catches up to him and he hurts us on the field).
4. Isaac Sopoaga (We need some younger, fresher, and cheaper blood on the defensive line. I like Sope but we gotta sacrifice somewhere)
5. Ted Ginn (WORTHLESS P.O.S. If it was up to me, Ginn would have already been cut)
A couple guys that I think we should resign:
1. Dashon Goldson obviously is one of the better safeties in the league and the Niners should try to resign him. I just dont want the Niners to break the bank for this guy. If he demands to be paid as the highest FS in the NFL, then let him walk. I like him but he is not on the level of Ed Reed or Polomalu and free safety is one of the easier positions to replace, unlike QB/OL/CB.
2. Paras Haralson: We need some quality depth at linebacker and Clark Haggans does NOT cut it. Also, Haralson was so solid against the run, maybe better than Aldon the Sack Specialist. People didnt appreciate him cuz he didnt put up the sack numbers unlike Aldon. Also, we have no idea whether Darius Fleming is good enough to play at this level since he has been injured all season.

No offense, but I'll believe it when AB says it.

Dr Bill Walsh, I know your opinion whether I should post a new thread. But what I REALLY want to know is.... who do you want to see cut or resigned on the 49ers?

Ginn is gone, for sure.
Haralson - Cam Johnson is now on the active roster and Fleming might recover the torn ACL. If so, he is gone.
Rogers -- Cully sure looks like a #1 corner in the making but then who is the #3 unless we use really high pick next year and then rely on a rookie as the nickel
Alex, unfortunately, will be gone -- maybe by a good trade but they won't allow the $7.5 million to vest. Good luck #11.
Akers -- it depends on how he does the rest of the year -- if the same as the last few weeks then yes he is gone for sure. If he turns it around (healthy) who knows.
Soap is worth keeping at the right price. He might at that point where he now makes too much, I don't know
I'm confident Paraag will get all this worked out just fine

Goodwin makes 5mil. Cut him and have kilgore play in his spot. I remember AB saying that cutting carlros rogers wouldnt really help the cap issue; plus he played great against welker. One of the top slot guys

He's wanting to discuss who people feel should be replaced. Asking AB doesn't exactly end the discussion.
Why do people have to whine so much about new threads?

Most likely cuts are Alex Smith, Parys Haralson, David Akers, and Jonathan Goodwin. All are making too much.
Alex - He can be cut pre March $1M roster bonus, and only due $1M base salary guarantee, but here is the thing, Alex if traded would only cost 1M now. I didn't factor in the matter that any team would take on his base salary. Maiocco is wrong with saving all money, Unless they move the roster bonus back, it will cost the 49ers still 1m to trade him, but if its a 2nd or 3rd then it's worth it.
Haralson - Hasn't been the same since he signed the extension in 09, and 2.87m is high for a 3rd OLB.
Akers - Saves $3.05m, the rest is prorated bonus that becomes dead money.
Goodwin - $4.35M saved, rest is prorated bonus that is dead money.
Carlos Rogers will be tough, he already has $1.7m guaranteed from his 5.5m base salary, and it becomes fully guaranteed on April 1st 2013. And the way the proration is, it will be difficult to cut him and make a savings. Unless a team will trade for him, then that would be different as the 1.7m goes to the trading team.

aldon isnt very good at run support i noticed. he doesnt physically get in front on the runner and stop him but yet he gets outta the way and attacks their lower body which gives them a few extra yards if he makes the the stop

The only good thing to come from the loss is saving 2.5M from Brooks' deal. He wont meet the escalators either, 12 sacks.
