Given how much the Niners value flexibility in playing other positions (OL, the Dobbs/Tuk experiments), and all the talent on the roster, can a guy like Colin Jones hang on to a spot? I know they had him try WR a bit last year and he's still trying to pick up learning how to play S, but it's going to be much tougher this year. They're loaded at WR and RB, and even have guys they won't want to expose on the DL.

the only reason why we sue collin jones at WR was we ran out of WR last year

i agree though niners like these 2 dual threat players but i can guarantee you iit wont be at key positions like WR or RB it will be more at the "secondary" positions like TE and FB

I do not see jones making the roster this year. Michael Thomas is seriously challenging him as the #5 safety. I wouldn't be surprised if we cut Jones completely(despite him being a draft pick) and trying to stash Thomas on the PS. Obviously Baalke would only do this if he was incredibly confident in Thomas making it to the PS but I have a feeling we might only carry 4 safeties on our final 53.

People said that about Costanzo 4 months ago, he is in chicago now. If Thomas can replicate Jones' effectiveness on ST he would be more important. Will it happen? probably not but to say Jones is 100% safe is a a little naive.
