from Maiocco Now, maybe we know why Alex Smith has yet to re-sign with the 49ers. Coach Jim Harbaugh worked out free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning and the former Indianapolis Colts quarterback took a physical for 49ers this week, ESPN reported Friday morning. The 49ers have kept their interest in Manning secretive, while he took public visits to meet with officials from the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans. Agent Tom Condon of CAA Football represents both Manning and Smith.
