No they are not. Right now all FA's on the niners know that there are teams willing to overpay them, so in turn they want the opportunity to be overpaid, its that simple.

Players can't be overpaid if they never hit free agency, even with the buyers market, every agent and player would be smart to see if they can sucker a team into paying them more than they deserve, worse case scenario they get paid like they would had they not left. Like with Ginn... some team is gonna think he can contribute at WR and pay him more than an ace special teamer. Meanwhile guys like Rainey, Wylie, Brazill, etc. can all be had with a 4th-7th draft pick. The examples go across the board, hell the last report on espn said Carr wants J. Joseph type money from last year which if the case isnt that bad and gets us 5 years younger at that position.

Fans just need to let the front office do what they get paid to do

Lets stop with the penny pinching accusations. In aother thread started recently people were complaining because they thought we were overpaying one of our players who we had re-signed.

Nowardays, you have to financially manage an NFL franchise. And the fact if, since the salary cap came in our franchise has never been so well managed financially as it is now. Carmen Policy eat your heart out.

You pay good money to your top players but the others have to take what is left. Our management are being fiscally responsible and building a team which should stay near the top for a long while.

I think Baalke is doing a HELL of a job not over paying for ok talent not exceptional. This scheme fits Alex, Rogers better if they want better money go else where I'm sure Baalke can find a replacement QUICK.

but to answer the thread question in a word, no.

Keeping the team together is first and foremost the most important goal this offseason. Drafting well to improve upon what we already have is second. Free Agency should be used to supplement the roster with reasonably priced vets. Big contracts in FA will just hamper our ability to carry out goal number one.

I do not want us to operate like the Jets or Skins. Although it can be frustrating last season at least showed that this approach is workable.

I think the Niners front office is letting the market decide players value. I really like Larry Grant and he's a solid backup but I think what they're doing is tendering him low and the offer that comes in will probably be matched unless it's way out there. Many out there have expressed that Grant can't earn more than Bowman but I'm sure an extension is being worked on for Bowman. The front office has done a good job of trying to keep their good players. I tell you what, the longer this deal between Smith & SF takes, it opens the door to P. Manning. I hope they know what they're doing because we could loose Smith, Manning, and Flynn.

Please keep in mind that the 49ers are operating under a salary cap. They can't just pay everyone want they want, or they will go over the cap. To avoid that, they are then forced to sacrifice future years (lots of back-loaded contracts). So yeah, in the short term you are more likely to get to the SB, but you later guarantee that you won't be able to. The 49ers are gambling that they will either be able to keep the players at reasonable contracts, or find cheap replacements for them. If they fail, then 2011 was the high point for the franchise. If they succeed, then we are looking at another dynasty.

Having so many players sent to the Pro Bowl this year didn't do the 49ers any favors. It just made it more costly to resign many of their veterans.

Where are you going to find a back-up LB with his kind of athleticism and play-making ability if Wills or Bowman go down? I say that an extra $700K would be a great insurance policy for the Front 7. With our cap room, we should be able to keep these guys, along with Snyder and Josh Moran. I hope that our penny pinching doesn't come back to bite us.

I like Rogers but age is a huge factor when he's seeking a long term contract. Repsonsible management of the salary cap is the name of the game.

I honestly think it would be foolish to let Carlos Rogers walk. It seems like the 49ers forget how essential good CB play is to a successful defense. My 2¢.

Really, after Deion who did we have langham Plummer rumph spencer...he is probably the best cb we have had since the 90s and our secondary has been a weakness especially at cb since the 90s. Yeah we haven't had a probowl CB in forever. You have to bust out the history books and go way back to the 2000 era and find Walt Harris made the probowl in 2006. I know it happened so long ago that it's really hard to find info on the subject. I had to go deep into the Niners archives to find the last time we had a good CB.

You don't want to overpay him like the eagles did with NA last year. However, I think this whole he is old is a piece of garbage. He wants 4 years, that sounds right to me. Rogers hasn't a case of injury problems like Shawnte has had. Plus he is a proven commodity that made the probowl. People think it is so easy to get a top tier CB, yet we have trying for years. As the saying goes, you don't know what you got till its gone. The front seven makes the secondary good, but the secondary also makes the front seven good. Rogers is the guy that doesn't need help. Which enables us to control teams that have multiple threats like the lions, saints and giants.

However, I will agree that the niners will let the market gauge his value. Then make an offer, which is smart. A probowl corner that had 6 intercepts-8 million plus incentives is fair to both sides.
