How the hell are we going to do it under the cap without subtracting something off the defense? You can't have your cake and eat it too. Brooks and Haralson are over rated Spencer goes also we can sign Grant for less and draft a LB 1st round all helping us sign a top FA WR or two who can connect with Alex and improve our woeful 3rd down conversion rate. Let Crabtree go as well. Colston Bowe Johnson any combination of these 2 are far better than Willams Crabtree & Morgan.
Sorry Gore is worn down and has lost his explosiveness i'd cut him and sign Forte or Lynch.
It's difficult to calculate right now what can be done because of Alex's deal Rogers and Goldson and the cap.
This is the same goofy approach that basically put the Ravens into purgatory. 49ers defense is their strength, they're a DEFENSIVE, ball-control team, they are never going to be the Saints or the Packers, people talk as if all this team need is a #1 WR and all of a sudden they're passing for 400 yards a game. Won't happen. The mistake Baltimore did was trying to become an offensive juggernaut while losing some of their defensive identity in the process and it took away their great strength for awhile.
The 49ers should draft a WR in the 2nd-4th rounds, add a 2nd/3rd tier WR who will be affordable and focus on upgrading their defense and depth the rest of the way.
Bottomline, the 49ers aren't signing any big-name WR's, might as well put that thought out of your mind right now. Bowe is not leaving Kansas City, Colston is approaching 30 after having had 2 microfracture procedures, Jackson is going to be looking for a huge payday(both of them), and the competition will be intense for Wallace, he will also likely be looking for 7-10 million a year.
The guys the 49ers will be in the running for are guys like Meachem, Pierre Garcon, Laurent Robinson, Eddie Royal.
