Looking at the many replays of Justin eating up two OLs, and not just once, but frequently....can he continue to do that against the Giants? He was certainly one of the reasons that the "unbeatable" Saints O had so much trouble. Certainly by himself he would be a footnote to history. But with the remainder of the DL, incl ALL DONE, the two best ILB tandem in the league, and the surprisingly aggressive and jolting D backfield, Justin's ability to take up two OLs seems like a definite advantage of SF D over the Giants O. But here's the other thing: Can the incredibly tough SF D stay upright in the slop? CW says the guy going forward who knows where he is going on O has the advantage over the D, who has to guess where the WRs and TEs are headed. Having seen sloppy games at the Stick, I was impressed by how much the slop first bothered one side and then the other. Is our DL and theirs going to overpower the RBs? I have heard it argued both ways and think it is a tossup. What is certain, is that several important plays will be definitely decided by the footing. Obviously putting on longer cleats helps some, but probably both sides are going to do the same thing. But a wide open run from the 2 yd line could be stopped by a RB slipping. Coverage by DBs can result in INTs if the WRs slip, which they will. But likewise, DBs can slip on a play perfectly covered , giving up a TD. I am curious to see if on the DL, Justin can continue to tie up two OLs, and if so, we probably win the D battle. If he slips and slides, then maybe he can only tie up one DL. In that case no clear advantage to either team. The guy I think most impacted by the sloppy conditions will be ALL DONE...and if he ends up an ultraquick , bullrusher, who can't keep his footing, his speed and strength are negated. Somehow both ALL DONE , the DL and the Dbackfield need to keep their feet beneath them. Normally those guys along with our LBs give us the D advantage. I sure hope that holds in the slop, because if so, we win. Our D vs theirs wins...but we have to have our D upright to do so. Otherwise the game is a tossup, based on nothing more than a few lucky plays of who slips and who doesn't. That would be a heckuva way to lose a game we could have won on a dry field.

Watching the "drain the field" crew out there this morning, getting water off the tarp was impressive. There was a lot of agua, but moreso than water, there were incredible gusts of wind. That was early about 10 or so...if that keeps up, gusts able to blow a water soaked tarp up in the air, has to be a net positve for us and a huge negative for Eli. Advantage us. Anyone know what wind conditions are now and predicted at gametime?

Unfortunately in the first half, Justin has been completly shut out. They have effectively doubled him, and there has been only one rush where Eli got pressure. That is NOT good for us. We do not look like we are ready for this game, whether it is weather, or slipping or inability to bring pressure, we can't do much in this wet.

I don't know if it is the wet, the slop, or the Giants, but our guys just don't look sharp. It looks like we are playing not to lose, instead of to win.

Once again, Justin Smith nearly "won" the game for the 49ers. Too bad we were down to no receivers - yes, I know Crabs was healthy, too bad he can't get open.
