what was the thinking behind the trick play with gore throwing to alex smith?

Not sure...the execution on that play was awful. Smith was hanging around in the backfield so he was probably planning on throwing it.

Horrible idea. Why do we have to get so f**king cute? Was not impressed by the offensive or defensive play-calling at all. Our players overcame it.

I think that's the 1st time Gore's EVER thrown a pass in a game. Probably not a wise move.

Trick plays make you look like a genius when you land them... and then make you look like an idiot when you don't.

It's more about the timing, in my opinion. (I think) we were up by three and weren't doing much on offense, while the defense was playing well. I think they wanted to get a big play that would give our offense a spark. If we messed up, the defense could bail us out. And also... when you consider that it was Gore and Smith that were the two components of the play, I trust that they won't make a big turnover or something. It was a risk, of course. But it had some merit.

Smith can't catch the ball. His limitation is holding this team back on offense. That was a good throw by Gore.

You want to bet that if that had went really bad, the smith haters would have been foaming at the mouth ready to ship him out of town?hey at least whoever we play next weekend will know we are not predictable. I would have never thought to call the smith run for the td

It was going to be one of those either genius drives or a big flop. It reminds me of that WTF Stanford play where they line up Luck at WR, it hasnt come off the times Ive seen them run it.

Vernon was wide open on that play. If executed correctly the play would have been huge.

Alex kind of Moran Norris'd himself on that one.

Gore throws like a girl

If it was a good pass and Alex would've caught that ball it would have been a big gain. Obviously Harbaugh saw something on that side of the defense or he would've never bootleg Alex for a 28 yard run on the exact same side with a different play.

Pittsburgh makes that play so easy. Vernon was open too.

We don't run very many plays that so it probally wasn't practiced much.

lol it was a bad throw and Alex didnt help either by not going back towards Gore to narrow that throw, maybe they should have lined up Akers out there.
