In 1980 we were 6-10, finished 3rd in the NFC West. -In 2010, we finished 6-10, 3rd in the NFC West.

In 1981, we finished 13-3, locked the division up in week 13 (against the Giants). In 2011, we finished 13-3, locked the division up in week 13 (against the Rams).

Before 1981, we didn't win the division since 1972, that's 9 years. Before 2011, we didn't win the division since 2002, that's 9 years.

I'm really f**king creeped out now...

Sadly we dont play the bengals so it could be called the de ja vu season

But we could face "America's Team". -Aka The Packers (who were given the newly appointed title by the Associated Press this year).

I agree with you. We certainly do not have a WR like fitz or CJ. Those are arguably the best WR in the league. The good thing for the saints is that the 9ers dont have a reciever like that either. They also dont have a QB like stafford. The lions are a much better offense and they only put up 28. The saints collectively are very dangerous. The numbers certainly back that up. J. Graham did not get his yards after the catch. His asset is his size. Can Willis run with him, yes. But drew has a knack for putting the ball in spots were only graham can get to it. Sproles is a wildcard. If he is matched up one on one with any LB I like his chances. Even if it is with the best LB in the league. You also have to be careful with sproles in ST. But those are not the only weapons the saints have on offense. What makes the saints offense so difficult to defend is they can run the ball and they have 3-4 receivers, although none are CJ or Fitz, that r capable of making plays. Along with graham and sproles. Colston is also forgotten about here. If you stop graham and sproles there is colston, Henderson, meachum, and Moore. Out the backfield there is ivory and Thomas. 2 very capable backs. I also agree that the 9ers D is very good, but the saints OLine has faced great pass rushers before. Det front 4 is extremely good and deep but they was not able to consistantly put pressure on brees. The giants also were unable to put consistantly pressure on Brees. J. Allen and the vikes couldn't get to him either. Not many teams have. The numbers over the last 5 years show that it's not easy to get to brees and I have no reason to think this week will be any different. Do you know how many forums I've been on and heard that their team will be able to put pressure on brees?

Maybe y'all have played against better RB and WR's. I seriously doubt y'all have played against a better TE. I also doubt y'all have played against an offense that has been able to stress a defense with formations and balance like the saints. No teams throws the ball better than the saints and the saints have avg 160 yards or so on the ground over the last 8 weeks. SF will have to score against the saints to win this game. 17, 21 or 24 is not gonna get it done. It should be a great game. It's gonna be fun to see what gives the great SF D or the explosive saints offense. Don't sleep in the saints D either. They are certainly no SF D but the are better than what they are given credit for.

It all comes down to pass rush.

Our pass rush is far better than the Lions. It's the reason we have won so many games. Our pass rush last year is not remotely close to what it is now. Teams have game planned against it all year because they look at the film. Tons of short drops, 1st down play-action, and then they try and hit a couple of big plays. EVERY team that has tried to drop back and sit in the pocket on 2nd and 3rd down has been mercilessly pressured.
Vick and Romo were able to scramble away like running backs and make plays. That is why they put up big numbers on us. We rushed the Hell out of them, but we couldn't actually catch them after we got to them. Brees has great pocket ability, but he's not a runner like those guys.
The Steelers were the last team that tried to sit back in the pocket. Their quarterback had no mobility that game, so he got killed.
Our sack statistics are skewed because of the way teams try and play offense against us, with nothing but short passes and gimmick plays. Last year, they dropped back and sat there, so we had a better chance to actually make the sack.
In other words, this year, its not usually just one guy who gets through and makes the sack; its a collapsing pocket, and pressure pressure pressure from all sides.
You can't block J Smith or A Smith one-on-one. McDonald is the most underrated player on our defense. Brooks makes plays and gets good pressure. Both inside linebackers can blitz very well, but haven't had to do it much this year, because the pressure has been so good with four rushers.

You can hurt us on first-down play-action, when our run stoppers are in. I'm sure the Saints will try this, because other teams have recently had success against us this way. But to counter this, we have been putting Aldon Smith in the game on first down. He is a rook, but he is not a bad run stopper, because of his immense raw physical ability.

NaVorro Bowman is our best bet against Sproles. He has the quickness to run with him. Besides Brees (obviously), Sproles probably scares me the most.

With zero wind in a dome, Brees has made throws with inches to spare. The question is, with pressure, with some wind, can he make the same perfect throws?
I guarantee you, he will see a lot more pressure this Saturday, then he did against the Lions; with or without the blitz.
I really don't think that SF will be able to consistantly put pressure on brees. Not saying that they wont make a few plays and I could argue that DET has a good as front 4 as anyone in the league. They def have the best 2 D tackles. The saints have the best O- line in the league, 3 pro bowlers. Second drew makes quick decisions and gets the ball out of his hands. Third, they have to respect the saints run game. And last, the saints are excellent at running screens. Go check the stats over the past 5 years. D. Brees is one of the least sacked QB's in the league. The giants wasn't able to get to him. The sack leader J. Allen wasn't able to get to him. J. Abraham wasn't able to get to him. All are very good pass rushers. It's gonna come down to if SF can score touchdowns, not field goals. This offense is rolling right now. I'm not saying they are gonna hang 40+ on SF but SF is goin to have to score in the 30's to win this game. 17-24 is not gonna get it done. I would think differently if it was raining and windy. But right now the forecast is 65, clear, and 5-6 mile/hr wind. Which means weather will not be a factor.

The weather will not be a factor in this game. IMO there are a couple of factors that will determine the outcome of this game.

1. Turnovers - you can say this about ever game though. 9ers are 1 in the league at takeaways so the saints will need to protect the ball.
2. Can the 9ers score touchdowns instead of field goals? The saints give up yards however they are playing good D on 3rd downs and scoring D. They've givin up yards bc they have played in a lot Of blowout games and they played soft late in those games in order to not give up the big play.
3. Can the saints contain Gore? Lately they have been playing good run D however Gore is a great back. I also think V Davis can be a game changer. He will have to keep the saints honest and not loading up to stop the run. The saints are deep at CB and Greer is very underrated so I think the saints will make Smith make some throws to win this game.

The 9ers have a great D but the Saints have been running the ball effectively and they have the best passing game in the league. Now, I don't believe the Saints will rush for 150-200 yards but the 9ers will have to respect their run game. I don't feel like the 9ers will be able to consistantly put pressure on Brees. Key word consistantly. They will make some plays, they are a great D but the saints have the best OLine in the league. They have so many weapons on O and drew will find the mismatches and the saints run game will keep the 9ers honest. I feel the Saints will put up 27-31 points on Saturday and the 9ers will not be able to match that. My prediction 31-13 Saints.

your going down ! your last three games have been at home . welcome to the bay enjoy our D.......

Who cares what the weather is going to be, just don't let there be any earthquakes.
We win this game! and here is why... If everyone remembers, last yr. on Monday night against the Aints we played an excellent game, scored 22 when our team was nowhere near playing as good as it is now, blocked a FG that still went in etc. I feel if we scored that many then... we can score around 30 this time. Our defense will hold them under 30, on grass, away from the dome, mud, wind, loudest crowd since 02' Giants game. With a week off Gore will be fresh, we will pound that rock, run the clock, and as usual.. win the field position battle, and force at least 3 turnovers!!

Niners 30 Aints 24

yeah last year the saints had extra time to prepare of us and they only won by a late FG. obviously the teams are very different now, but we were poorly under coached. i think we win 31-19. Go 49ers!!!!!
It doesn't matter. Let it be sunny. If you want to beat them you have to beat them.

They hell they would. Sean "the Scab" was a member of the Chicago Bears squad of strikebreaking replacement players (scabs), known as the "Spare Bears", during the 1987 NFL players strike. Harbaugh was with the Bears at the time. Sean crossed a players picket line, and no player striking would forget that. This is far from a non-story; just don't expect either to verbalize it to the media anytime soon.

Basically, Sean wasn't good enough to make an NFL team, so he crossed a picket line in the hope of landing Harbaugh's job. No f'n way cordiality will ever exist between the two.

^^^^THIS^^^^ SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT HES TALKING ABOUT.!! Good Post.

Thanks, Jim.

Really, it shouldn't even NEED a poll. Facts don't need to poll opinions.

I posted something like this earlier in this thread... But Did you find out anything about harbaughs comment on Sean getting paid in cheeseburgers?

Edit: looks like what I heard on the radio was that Payton interview meal was McDonald's cheeseburgers

Watching some highlights on Bree's and it looks like takes like a 10 step dropback to compensate his height and to see where the rush is coming from

If we can make him look at where the rush is coming from and take his eyes off down field then we can get multiple turnovers
With two weeks to prepare, there will be no excuse this time for not being ready to stop the blitzes.

Yeah, NCommand makes some really good points on this topic. We have a great front 7, but how much better could they be if we disguised our pressure and coverage? Isn't that the primary benefit of running a 3-4 defense?

Teams blitz to apply pressure they cant get with the front four. Blitzing in turn exposes a defense so then they began zone blitzes to disguise the coverage to force the QB to hold the ball longer so that the blitzer can still get there.

Why do all that when you can apply pressure with four (remember, it can be any four) AND use that to disguise coverage with seven back?

We have he ability to show he same look on Defense every down but can do a lot of different coverages with that same look.

Those are some good points. Though I would counter that blitzing is about more than just getting pressure. Its about making the QB make mistakes and causing turnovers. I know Goldson and Rogers are at the top of the leauge for picks, but I dont know that any of those picks came from disguised coverage.

Also, dont some of the leauges most elite 3-4 Ds run heavy blitz, like Steelers/Ravens/Cards ( I know) and the Superbowl D of the Packers last year? Maybe I'm wrong, I really dont know. I guess you could argue that we had more success than any of those teams this year (ex. Steelers), but that could be because we have far more talent from top to bottom.

Moose Johnson said that Gore and Smith are happy this season and he hadn't seen that in a while.

Said the Saints offense is very efficient and it shouldn't matter where they play. However he is going to see how they play @ candlestick.

Moose knows about the 'stick

I'm sure we are going to see some big sets with Boone in as an extra TE and Miller in the backfield ...Harbaugh has the team prepared, I Just know it
I had a crazy dream last night that it came down to a game winning drive for the 49ers. High throw in the end zone and Crabs pulls it in. A new "catch"
