How would you grade the skill positions for the passing offense for this year?

QB C+
WR D
TE B+
RB D-

We have a very average to basically poor passing attack. Alex has been amazing working with very little talent around him. I think however Alex himself is rather limited, he has the right attitude, a great head for the game, he lacks one thing and that is a big time arm. This lack of arm will always hold him back, that said he can be a productive top tier (elite?) QB with his other tools.

Our Wide receivers are all below average. Crabtree and morgan show signs of better than average play, but fail to rise to the task. They are the only two keepers on the team. Ginn is a special teamer. Walker and Davis are both very good top shelf products, but after that the pantry is bare.

Hunter and Miller have shown decent pass catching skills, but Gore and Dixon are well below the NFL standard for pass catching. We can improve at every possiton in terms of the passing game.

I love this team, and what they have done and are doing, but I am chomping at the bit to see what JH and company can do with a full offseason to work with. Whatever happens next this sea on is icing on the cake, but next year the entire NFL had better put us high on their radar, because this team is back!

Solid B for the WRs? Really? Morgan is no better than a 2 on his best day. Ginn is trash at WR. Crabs is good but still just a very good number 2. Williams has potential but who knows what he can be. He's a 3rd WR at best right now. Everyone else is blah. So how is all that a solid B?

Dude I don't understand your logic at all. Alex Smith is a top QB but Crabtree is just a solid #2

I wouldn't give the receivers any thing better than D. Crabtree was really the only bright spot. Williams made plays at times but long-term I don't see him as better than a #4 receiver. Morgan, depending on how he comes back from that injury can be a solid #3 guy but ultimately this team is still lacking a true playmaker at the position. Crabtree also needs to show his ass up in the preseason and develop some better chemistry with Smith.
WR are C- very bottom of the C....we have a bunch of number 2's no solid number 1 threat
Overall year

QB = C+
WR = C
TE = B
HB/FB = B

Currently

QB = C+
WR = C-
TE = C+
HB/FB = B

This 3rd and 23, Run or 3rd and 23, Screen are getting old and is the reason we can't score in the RedZone.

Not to mention;
1st and Goal --- Run
2nd and Goal --- Run
3rd and Goal --- Run
FIELD GOAL...

Harbaugh likes to talk about how he feels that Alex Smith is an Elite QB....
But explain to me why;
- We don't see more down field passes? I mean hell.... Smith hits a majority of these passes so why do we not do it more often?
- Why in the Redzone when we are at 1st and Goal and 2nd and Goal do we not see Alex Smith attempt to toss one into the endzone? What's the worse that will happen? He will run it in like he did today?

IMO all of our problems lay in our playcalling, our team is solid.

The reason for this is pretty simple: Harbaugh has proven to be a lot more conservative than many like to believe. Sure he likes his goofy formations, but the over all philosophical thrust of the coaching staff has been extremely conservative, with the emphasis solidly on risk mitigation.

Granted, it doesn't make for very satisfying box scores, but we simply don't have the high flying offense that some wish to see--or think that we can "turn on" at whim. As it is, Harbaugh has done a brilliant job of maximizing the team's strengths and a big part of that has been our milquetoast approach to the offensive side of the game.

I'd also like to see us stomping other teams into gory pulps, but that simply isn't how you win with this team. Maybe next year.

QB = A- (13-3 record, only 5 INT's - 3 were his fault); 5 come back wins & the leader on offense with EVERYTHING against him to succeed including tons of injuries to the WR position)
WR = C- (Tons of injuries, very little separation if any at all, tons of drops, worthless in the RZ; Crabtree keeps it from a D)
TE = B- (VD had a great year but tons of crucial drops and not a great year blocking either; Walker was underutilized and Peele was used less and less)
HB/FB = C+ (More injuries again for Gore, no lateral speed making the offense predictable but as always, Gore got the hard yards; horrible hands this year and average blocking year; Hunter was stellar and underutilized on screens and will learn to hit that right hole to take it to the house; Miller was an absolute STUD and also underutilized in the passing game).
Mark me down with Command. Between no real preseason, a QB and WRs that never got the reps they needed to be comfortable with one another, plus a staggering string of injuries....add in a new OC/HC, and it is amazing what Coach H has done with this group of unknowns. Brady has had Welker for yrs, Brees has had half a dozen receivers for yrs, including the SB. So taking all that into account, is Coach Harbaugh thinking of stealing a SB with a team like the Dilfer lead Ravens ? Somehow he is going to have to come up with some way to beat Brees or Rodgers, and maybe just keeping them off the field is as good a place to start as any. If anyone can do it, our D would be the ones. Still and all, Brees, Rodgers, and Brady are 3 of the best qBs to play all at once in a long , long time. We wil have a huge hill to climb, but it is doable.

QB A-
WR D+
TE B-
RB D (for receiving)
OL D-

The fact that we are 11th in pass efficiency (through week 16, and 13th non-weighted toward recent games) with a subpar OL and receiving core and an average at-best running game is astounding and a clear example of what our QB play has done for us this year. Our rushing efficiency ranks 25th (or 17th non-weighted toward recent games). Yes, we get a lot of yards, 8th in rushing because we were 3rd in attempts. Our rushing in crucial situations, especially in the red zone, has let us down much more than our passing game has, although granted this is somewhat mitigated by the fact that defenses key in on stopping the run.

okay. i agree RZ playcalling is pretty bland. but to critisize play calls on 3rd and 23? there is not a play designed to get 23 yards not named hail mary. so you run a draw or screen and hope to get a block/mis tackle and then punt it away to gain field position.

if you gain 15 yards on that play that is 15 yds added on to the punt, or enough to sneak you into FG range.
oh and
QB=B
RBs=B+
TEs=C (way too many drops)
WRs=C- (crabs did okay, but they are just unaware and don't fight for the ball. this is skewed by ginn and edwards always eliminating themselves from the play.)
