trust me if I had the power I would in a nanosecond. Don't get mad at me because you can't read 10 lines down the board.

I think the 49ers are getting the most respect now actually. Multiple people are saying its the 49ers who stand as the biggest threat to the Packers. Not the Saints.
Kordell Stewart gave us serious props on ESPN and NFL.com is saying the same.
I still think it will take a SB win to get the respect most 49er fans want.

But we shouldn't need to win the SB to get respect. Honest 49er fans know that it is still a very long shot that we win the SB. Do we have a chance? Sure, we are in the playoffs. But this is still a team that is improving and may be missing a piece or two on the offensive side to truly get it done. Don't get me wrong, I am hoping like heck they can do it this year because it would be awesome.
All that being said, we are 11 - 3 and aside from a segment here and there they really don't acknowledge us. It is Patriots, Steelers, Packers, Saints, Giants, Cowboys and Teebow over and over. Heck, they even talk about the Eagles more than us.

The fact that people are no longer laughing when 9ers are being mentioned in the same sentence as the Saints and Greenbay is about all the respect you need. That pretty much says it all.

Why are people asking to lock up the thread? If you don't like the subject of the thread, or if you would rather comment on another similar thread, here's a thought: go do that. Don't contribute to this thread. Some of you people are really control freaks.
I'm not surprised that the Niners are having a hard time gaining respect. Anyone old enough to remember '81 has seen this movie before. Then, as now, the Niners were treated as some kind of aberration. Prognosticators complained about the "dinking" and "dunking" and repeated the mantra that it "wasn't real football." The league was a power running thing then and the Niners were unconventional. I don't remember a single east-coast prognosticator picking the Niners to beat the Bengals in that first Superbowl. The Bengals were a power team - they had a 260 lb fullback. They called the Niners a "finese" team. Now, everyone repeats the mantra that it's a "passing league" and a team like the Niners have today is treated as an aberration. This year, the Niners are unconventional again. It's all very ironic. I don't expect them to go all the way this year but if they do, it will be an amazing story of history repeating itself.
