Are 9ers going to sell off pieces of the ground? So much history on those grounds would be a waste to see it just dumped and reused.

They need to get building on that new stadium ASAP.

BTW it was Alexis Ssmmiitthhiieeyyy's fault. If power goes out twice it is because he is a Sssuuuxxooorrsss QB and he is standing there on the sideline. It wouldn't happen if it was Aaron Rodgers....

You love to find something to be negative about, even after we just beat a team YOU guaranteed a loss to, by 17 pts.

Candlestick is old. its also historic. Its obvious now that the new stadium is happening, so I dont get the point in being all grumpy about how run down it is. its over 50 years old, what do you expect? just enjoy it for the memories while its still here. I think its awesome that we play on the same field that the 49er greats played on. its the stadium where Montana, Rice, Young, and even Willie Mays built their legendary careers. Its a dump now, but theres been more sports history in that "dump" than maybe any other active football stadium.

Its no secret that we need a new place to play, and were getting one. Were all going to miss it when its gone. Its going to be a painful sight when they implode it in the near future. Im going to try and make it to a couple more games before its gone.

I'm happy and I'm just saying. But they may want to schedule playoff games for DAYTIME if you know what I mean... BTW the new stadium looks great in pics and I hope they get it online soon.

seems a little fishy the power goes out at the stadium in the final stages of a MNF game during the final stretch of the new project. It's kinda like look how crappy Candlestick is

I highly doubt this was intentional. If it was then we have idiots in charge. People can easily be injured, possibly even killed, especially in a compact area with 50,000 people, during a blackout. I don't think anyone with a brain would want to risk that with a power outage stunt.

Huh!? Really? That's b******t. Can't be true. No primetime games until 2015 would suck a$$.

who reported that?

doubt it. other stadiums in the past have had lights go out. looks like it was a one time issue tonight.
Felt like the Enron days #rollingblackouts

It was on the postgame show. The NFL said no such thing, they were just speculating on something like that possibly happening.

Great power play for Jed though. This will work to his advantage.

Yeah it was on the post game show and I heard i also heard it on JT the Brick's show. If its true I think it's BS but it certainly was an embarrassment to the city of San Francisco on a national stage. Jed looks smart now and politicians in the city look like they really don't care about maintaining their stadiums

Stadiums newer than candlestick that had power outages AZ and StL.

The NFL will just get assurance that this will not happen again and 9ers will make the necessary changes to keep this from happening again.

I don't think that's necessarily true. We've had plenty of primetime games the past few years with no issue. A transformer blew. That's just bad luck.

This, power failures happen from time to time. LOL at this being a conspiracy...

Cynics have a field day with Candlestick blackout

So with the lights going out — twice — last night at Candlestick Park, some folks who scratch deeper than the surface are wondering what was really happening.

The folks at ESPN did a nice job of immediately focusing on the impact of the delay on Ben Roethlisberger's injured ankle, given that any painkilling injections would wear off at some point after the needle exited the skin. And that invites speculation that someone intentionally tripped over the cord, knocking out the lights in order to eventually knock down Big Ben.

Then there's the fact that the 49ers are in the process of building a new stadium in Santa Clara, with folks in San Fran not thrilled about that possibility. So what better way to get them on board with the move than to demonstrate in a nationally-televised night game that the current stadium is no longer ready for prime time?

The cynicism also applies to efforts to find a way for the 49ers and Raiders to coexist in a shared stadium. Per a league source, the Raiders promptly offered during the first blackout to make the Black Hole immediately available for the Steelers-49ers game, if it was deemed that power could not be restored. Though many logistical issues would have been presented by a decision to load the players for both teams into buses and ship them across the Bay (not to mention the TV cameras), the gesture shows that the Raiders are good neighbors — a mindset that possibly will spill over to their respective fan bases at some point before the first annual figure skating championships in Hell.

UPDATE 10:53 a.m. ET: A league source just passed along to PFT that there are indeed rumors in league circles that the blackout was aimed at assisting the stadium effort by demonstrating that Candlestick Park is outdated and unfit.

OR Just your random everyday technical issues caused a faulty transformer to explode and cause the lights to go out.

We're talking about a 51 year old structure that has a seating capacity of 70k.

The fact that it even still stands without major retrofitting is a testament to the architect.
It was the bartender at Buffalo Wild Wings.

The Stick has some major history behind it....I can never speak ill of it.

Hearing those BSPN tools trash it last night like it was pathetic.
