Good stuff, oldman9er. This is the kind of post that puts the beat writers to shame. Keep up the good work on reporting drops, and we might be able to get you a spot with the Dropkick Murphys!

Thanks to you and others. Yes, it IS time consuming, but I wanted to get the count right.
As for errant throws... again I will concede that Alex has a few per game.. He also has a few plays where he leaves you thinking, "WTF, Alex.. c'mon!"
But that could probably be said for any QB.
Now, I will be able to have a running tally on the number of drops we have from game to game.

Crabtree doesn't practice and he doesn't focus so the drops are going to keep on coming. Of course if Alex stops throwing to Crabtree because he isn't reliable then you are going to see him really dog it.

I'm the only one who cares about off target passes? Well yes, that is clear. Apparently off target passes aren't bad, but drops are the devil.
bye. Again.
And, no, off target passes are something to consider. This year, Smith has had far less of them. The two to Crabs last week were high, no doubt.

U r the only person in this thread who cares about off target throws! It's like me going into an Alex smith thread and b***hing about gore. I should start a gore thread for my rant instead of tolling the smith thread!

Was clearly just a formerly banned member trying to get a rise out of me. Now he's gone again... thank you, mods.

No. If you want to count drops, then you should also count off target throws. You should also count the amount of times he is in the pocket and hesitates too long like he was doing in the 1st half. That's the only way to keep it fair.
There is no pumping up Alex or anyone for that matter you took it that way because you have an itch up your a@@ about Alex just admit it!

Most of Alex's errant throws are throw aways because of the situation. His worst throw was probably in the Bengals? game. The WR on the right ran a down & in while VD ran an out. Alex threw the ball just as both receivers were crossing each other and the pass landed between both receivers and was almost picked off. If Alex could have waited a half of a second and led VD to the outside the play would have picked up some nice yardage. The pocket may have been collasping but VD also looked like he was way off in timing his cut. The whole thing was pretty ugly.

I guess this can and can't be considered a bad pass, but his one int. of the year was a head scratcher. Not sure what he was trying to accomplish.

I wonder if this was the play that I made strong mention of before in my offensive play breakdown thread. VD was running an out and never stuck out his arms and the ball plunked down at left foot area. Was that it? Because I was irritated at VD for not simply extending his arms... (still didn't include that one as a drop though)

Good post as usual. Do you only count balls that touch a receivers hands/body? Rogers tried to intercept a ball with his head, would that count as a drop if Crabtree or another receiver did that? I seem to recall one or two of those last year.

I think all of the drops were pretty easy to determine. No real questionable ones, and like I said, I separated the alligator-armed ones and P.I. ones.
If the receiver were to turn around to finish his route and got smacked in the helmet by the ball bouncing off, I would include it as a drop IF I felt sure that the receiver had time to find the ball and raise his hands to catch it.
