The role of the TEs is critical against a team that blitzes a lot. They must be able to not only chip the blitzer but immediately get into the open space the blitzer just emptied. This part worries me because Vernon Davis has never mastered that ability like Brent Jones and even Eric Johnson. However, if he makes the correct reads, he will immediately be one-on-one with the safety...and that is a good thing.
Also, the WRs must be able to make the correct reads as well. Smith will have a very limited amount of time so WRs must adjust their routes as well to find the open spots. Slants should be open but Ryan will disguise the blitzes and drop people into short zones to take away the quick passes.
Finally, when they blitz, they will leave their corners one-on-one with someone on the outside. That should allow some deep routes. If the line can give Smith time to get the deep ball out, there should be some opportunities there as well.
Ryan's defense gambles a bit but it is also very sound. He is not the mad bomber his father was nor is he as emotional as Rex. I'm certain Harbaugh has not overlooked him and will use whatever stuff he has been able to get the team confident in to counter Ryan.
The Cowboys certainly appear to have the upper hand in this one but the injuries to their secondary should give the 49ers some chances. The 49ers will have to win the turnover battle in this one. Dallas will likely force at least one which means the 49ers should have at least three in order to have a chance to win.
