Shaj: We might have won a few more games here and there, maybe even had one winning season. But I really think that many of his problems extended beyond who he had playing QB: poor play calling, bad fundamentals on coaching, bad game management, etc. If I had to follow the hypothetical situation of him drafting Rodgers, I'd say that it would have bought him one more season, someone else would have possibly took a chance on Singletary, and we'd be in the second season of a different head coach.

As to the overall topic, it goes to show that it takes creativity plus physical talent to move the ball in this league.

Harbaugh's offense will be a better version of Norv's offense, especially in the passing department and since Alex has more experience now.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Gore gets 200 vs SEA this year and racks up 1400+ for the year but on a 5.5+ average. Dude has been getting 4+ average running into walls.

Possibly. But then who would he really have been? A different person?

Nolan was defined by his reasons for selecting Smith over Rodgers: Meaning he wouldn't have been Nolan if he had selected Rodgers.

BTW most posters who are bring up and ragging on Nolan were BIG supporters of Nolan during his tenure . . . to the bitter end. Not naming names, but those posters were using similar rhetoric in support of Nolan that they are now using in support of a certain QB.

Look, during the preseason they talked about this. After year 1 and 2, in GB, they thought Rodgers was a waste. That is why they drafted Brohm I believe in the 2nd. Rodgers then re-dedicated himself and supposedly made huge leaps around year 3 and 4. If Rodgers was here, he would have started right away and probably sucked more than Alex.

At Stanford, There were times when Harbaugh and Roman would run the same play 3 consecutive times...but out of 3 different formations and personell groupings. The idea isn't to run a trick play every down...its simply to not telegraph where the ball is going.

Teams in the past knew ahead of time what the play was gonna be and new to follow Mike Iupati to the ball.

They won't be able to do that anymore.

yup. people tend to look back and assume that Rodgers was always awesome and always going to be awesome and we just made the bad pick. They forget that there was legitimate debate about the two QB's, which one was better, and that it was an incredibly weak year to be drafting a QB. Rodgers is a surprise. He also had somewhat funny mechanics coming out of college that over his first 3 or 4 years were completely changed. Its not like he arrived fully formed as the greatest QB in the history of the world.

i wanted us to draft Rodgers, and who knows what would have happened if we did? But having him instead of Smith isn't a guarantee that things would be much different.

We will see if Harbaugh can handle the NFL and if the other coaches don't figure him out. NFL is a different ballgame in terms of how teams prepare for the opponent and level of difficulty the opponent is accustomed to.
