I agree fully that JH will somehow, someway, keep SEA off balance, and your scenarios will most likely be the way. Basically what I got from him in college was that whatever I expected, he did something different. Granted I only saw him a handful of times, but he never ceased to amaze with his play calling. He DID , however, have an OL. I still maintain he personally can coach most of these guys up, but i am not expecting miracles or instant gratification.
Hmm...your mention of his Stanford offense makes me wonder about all the shifts (excessive shifting). I hated it and thought it was just a lark for the OLine to show some high kicks and can can, but on second thought, I wonder if Harbaugh was having the D watched from upstairs to see how they adjusted. Then, when the play went nowhere, they would run a very effective play knowing what the D tendency would be.
The NFL level is more complex but it will be interesting to see how much shifting the 9ers do.
And no...I am not an instant gratification guy. I want a long range game plan to get this team back to the super bowl!

To your point, some very fine coaches may run the same play 3 consecutive times, but just from different sets, generally involving shifts. Guys like we have had last 8 yrs would never have tried something like that, but I will not be surprised to see if not that , then something somewhat similar. As an aside, much as i am waiting to see the 9ers play, to me the most exciting part will be watching JHs playcalling. Obviously he is going to have to start coaching away from our OL, and that will be no mean feat. I wonder if somewhere, when we just have to have 2 yds for a first or a TD, if he doesn't pair say, Iupati and staley side by side and run up behind them, and /or have an OL at FB blocker, and then run Frank up staley and poti's back. Honestly i have not been as excited about watching a coach in yrs...exactly since the GOAT hung 'em up.
With severe hardship and pain, i forced myself to rewind the Saints and Texans games, two examples of an OL gone bad...really bad. I tried to concentrate on Harbaugh's respones after the OL cocked up one play after another. I think what i saw was a look of incredulity, as in, "what in the world was that?". The fact that we came back both times with better blocking (against weaker Ds, as SD played a lot of 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers), is at least a hopeful sign that he could correct some things.
I think it obvious that against either Texans or Saints, or the Ravens, GB, Steelers, eg, he will not be able to scheme around a non functioning OL. Against weaker teams i think he will. My question is will it take an entire season to develop at least 2, maybe 3 OL guys who can be depended on to carry out their assignments. Really good news, of course, would be that he gets part of the OL to block prior to end of season. JH is no magician, but he is clever. Thanks to PS games, he knows before the first ball is snapped in anger what he doesn't have for an OL. That alone is a huge improvement over ericson, noln, and BM, who noted the OL was ineffectual sometime just around Christmas. How he schemes around his OL is going to be fascinating to watch. I still hold out hope that his knowledge of OL blocking as well as every other position on the field,(like coach Walsh), may allow him to teach the basics to at least of couple of OL guys, and maybe a few of them needed nothing more than that. We'll find out soon enough.
