Vegas' odds have nothing to do with who THEY think will win/has the best chance...it has everything to do with what they think the PUBLIC will bet. The ultimate goal is to get every team to have an equal amount of money laid on them. This way, the books will never lose money
So what those lines really means is that the public is leaning Niners in the west. Probably because the Cards and Hawks have even more uncertainty at QB than we do and the Rams' Bradford is a likely candidate for a sophomore letdown with the overall lack of talent in St. Lou...
Either way, I'm with the public

Exactly. It drives me bananas when people use "Vegas odds" as any indicator as to what "professionals" think of our team and that it somehow translates into meaning good or bad things.
It's just about controlling the odds. It has NOTHING to do with who "they think will win", only what the odds need to be for them to get as much action as possible on a given bet where both sides of the bet look appealing. And that has to do with how people are betting, not who their "experts" think will win.

I agree the odds makers in Vegas, along with people betting, are showing not the gloom and doom of a lot of people on this board.
