To anyone that thinks the 2011 Niners are gonna be worse than the 2010 Niners were

just because it is another year does not mean that a player is automatically going to be better. replacing players who have starting experience for younger players who have no starting experience can not mean an upgrade right away either. do not get me wrong i think we will be a better team however it has nothing to do with what you stated.

it can get worse than 0-5

On the whole, player for player, the Niners should be a better team...but because of other factors, may well end up with a worse record.

I will not be satisfied with anything less than a 10 win season.

Wow, SD with the most logical post in this thread. I'm in full agreement. It will take time for the team to learn the systems and execute properly. This is a learning year, and I know most of the board will hate that. The world will end a lot this season.

However, after Harbaugh has a good base of players that really know the system, I expect massive improvements. It will just take time.

Also, keep in mind that the other teams in the division aren't standing still either. The Cardinals have a better QB, and Bradford should be better in his 2nd year. From those 2 teams, we got half of our wins last year. We could easily regress from last year.

i think we will be off to a slow start but after around 5-6 games our team will start to come around and finish strong.

In comparing to 2010, 2011 positions are...

Offensive scheme - dramatic upgrade over Raye/Johnson. I doubt Harbaugh tries to sit on 3-point leads. Playcalling millions of times more creative.
QB - same, should be better with new scheme
RB - upgraded depth
WR - upgraded
TE - same
OL - worse - new scheme, but probably the same as 2010 by midseason

Defensive scheme - same - Fangio's defenses do not have a good track record, and Manusky was solid at times. It will be interesting to see an attacking defense versus Manusky's "bend, don't break" philosophy
DL - downgraded
CB - same - Rogers for Clements is debatable
ILB - downgraded - TKO was old, but likely better for 2011 than Bowman
OLB - same - possibly upgraded with Aldon, but it probably won't show early on
S - upgraded - Whitner is better than Goldson and Mays is gone

ST - upgraded - Still have Ginn, but I have a feeling Hunter will get some good reps! Mays and McKillop losses will not be felt.

Overall, this season will hinge on our offense getting their act together. Alex must play like a top-15 QB (which most think he is perfectly capable) and the OL must get their act together. Defense will likely be middle of the pack amongst most stats. HOU moved the ball wayyyyy too easily even against the starters, which was very makes me very incomfortable.

I see this season playing out like two scenarios...
a) Like a freight train - we start slow, losing close games. The plan starts to come together as we pick up some steam. We get to full speed by the bye week, and start murdering teams down the line. Losing games early hurts, but we end up finishing 9-7 or 10-6.
b) A lemon - we win a game here and there, but there is always something wrong. One game the defense doesn't show up. One game Alex sucks. Another game we give up multiplle ST blunders. Another game Crabtree tips 5 balls for INTs. We lose 5 starters for 3 games. Any victories would be hard-fought and we finish 4-12 or 5-11.

I think you missed the most obvious point.

St. Louis has a franchise qb and also will improve over 2010.

AZ has a qb who is an upgrade over 2010 and is improved.

Seattle is a ?? as is SF?

So the niners can be better than 2010 and have a worse record.
