You can't go 6-12 in the regular season

The reason is kind of other obvious cicumstance (lock out) and Harbaugh needed someone to install his playbook. Why would he bring in a Hassleback or VY when you could possibly get the same results out of smith? You have to figure they would give smith one more year under a proven qb teacher. with smith the best case is it works out and you have a quality qb whose still only 27. Worst case is it doesnt and you get a high pick in next years draft not necessarily for Luck but to fill out some of the other holes on the team WR CB.while seeing what you have at other positions. To me its a win win and after all these years whats another year or 2 gonna hurt for the big picture down the line. And honestly other than Gore this team is still very young.
That is ridiculous. "Worse case is it doesn't and you get a high pick in next years draft." Did you just start following the team last year. You're OK with another year of losing, when we have the talent at other areas to make a run in the weak West with a decent QB? Another year of losing with Smith at the helm. We should have made a move and failed. Another Baalke York blunder.

The 49ers were going after Hasslebeck even after the lockout. In one of the articles, Hasslebeck said it was down to Tenn or 49ers, he was swayed by JH and Tenn's GM who used to work in Seahawks org., but in the end chose Tenn. because he liked the idea of playing/starting a couple more years while tutoring Locker. Hasslebeck is better than Alex, the only thing Alex has is that he is more familiar with the players on the team.

5-11 could win the division by two games

I just want to go the playoffs. I don't care whether their record is 7-9 or 10-6.
I would never root for the Niners to lose. Once that game comes on, my fan-ship and competitive drive takes over big time... However... What good would 6-10 do? I mean, we all know Alex will never be the answer, and we don't know if Keapernick will be.. I personally didn't hate that pick, but I didn't love it either.. He's got great athletic ability, but I really don't like that release... I'm not sold on the guy... 6-10, would leave us out of any of the top QB prospects.. And I know, Brady wasn't a top pick, but picks like him that turn into a diamond in the rough for many years to game are very few and far between. I agree with some on this board, I'd rather finish at 2-14 with the #1 pick and be guaranteed at Andrew Luck then 6-10 and have no shot at a top tier guy. Seems like when we pick in the top 5, nobody is worth it in that draft. I sure hope our fortunes change here real soon....

Hahaha-oh crap! Then the No Fun League will institute a new rule called the NFC west division rule-no team under .500 even if winning the divion will not get an automatic qualifier to the playoffs.

I remember hearing about Hassleback by either maicco or barrows not sure which one at the time they were covering the story they said that the front office made it clear that they wouldnt bring in a vet to be a starter nothing more than a back up or someone to tutor smith or CK... which brings me back to my original point.
If we are 1-14 on the Sunday of the last game I hope that Harbaugh wouldn't be as stupid as Sing and win the last game and lose Luck in the draft. Of course, Mike Ditka did that in N.O. when he could have played his youngsters and lost the game but he kicked a$$ to win the game.. By winningthe game, he lost Peyton Manning in the draft. Tell me there weren't some Saint's fans cussing at the TV that day.

I do. I remember last year when the whole season felt like 1-15 even though we where in the hunt for the playoffs. If we make it to the playoffs, I want to feel like we are a playoff team. There is nothing worst than winning a couple, losing four straight, winning another, and losing two, then winning 3 and then stubbling into the playoffs by default. No thanks....
