we held their backs to under 100 yards each last season also. How they beat us was getting into a lot of 3rd and 3's or less and converting with running or PA's from that every time. They had an 80 yard drive and a 70 something yard drive on us. It was 3 to 4 yard plays on 1st and 2nd down running or passing which put them in continuous 3rd and 3 or less.

Their average per carry on us wasn't great but it was very difficult to stop them whenever they needed anything less than or equal to 3 yards. Now they get 3 of those conversions in one drive and then we are susceptible to a PA quick pass or QB run. They play very basic and patient ball but have the size to keep moving the chains. Most teams don't like to run on 3rd and 3...they LOVE to and Blount is guaranteed to get at least 1 yard after contact. Which will leave them at 4th and 1 or so. I have to check to see if they converted 4th downs on us also.

They were 0-1 vs us on 4th down. But their 3rd down efficiency was 7/14, 50%. This team thrives on 3rd downs.

Spikes replacement (Bowman) will have to do the hitting this time.

The difference is we now have weapons to stop those 3rd and 3 situations, and i bet we dont even get into many 3rd and shorts because our pass rush is just better this year than it was last year. We have more weapons on defense than they have to stop them. Willis+bowman+J. smith+Aldon smith...i dont think we need to worry about blount. he only had 127 yards against the s**tty colts defense, and the colts ate up the bucs O-Line like they were buffalo chicken wings.

I dont see how you think the bucs run game has a chance. The thing im worried about is our lack of good coverage by our CBs. Freeman has a good arm, and their WRs can beat our CBs. We need to get pressure on freeman quickly so he doesnt have time to throw long routs. We do that and we win.

I don't think the Bucs run game has a chance in terms of the pretty stats. Colts have two pass rushers better than any of ours. All the Bucs want to do is get 7 yards in two plays (1st and 2nd down). They are strong enough to convert a 3 yard 3rd down against any team. We had Franklin, Smith and Ice last year which was bigger than what we have now. We also had Manny, who was our best run defending LB.

The Bucs didn't have a great average per carry on us last year either but when they needed 1-3 yards, they got it. What makes them SOOOOO deadly on those short yardage is their QB being a 265 lb guy who can move. Did you see them run the option? They are very good at the 5 yard plays and design some solid plays for those situations. It will truly be a blue collar game.

This team looks like us more than any other team.
So if we beat the Bucs will you guys consider it a win against an average, good,or great football team?

A good team. It all comes down to how aggressive we play.

The Bucs are a well built team. I will consider it a very good win. They aren't flashy which is why no one pays much attention to them. They like to grind it out and they have a clutch type of QB.

To our advantage, their defense is a weakness. Our defensive front 7 will have their hands full.
Josh Freeman is overrated. He has 3 td passes this year with 4 int's. I think if the niners play mistake free get a few turnovers they will be fine this Sunday.

The Bucs last year against us had four 3rd and 3 or less situations on us. They converted 3. 2 of them were in Goal Line situations that resulted in TDs for them. If we could have generated any sort of offense in last years game we would have had a chance. Here is the drive chart for last years game http://espn.go.com/nfl/drivechart?gameId=301121025 The longest drive that we had for the game was 9 plays and 38 yards
i think that was one of those games in which the D basically knew what that offense was doing all game long and calling the plays before the ball was even hiked. that ish aint gonna happen this go around
