The Eagles defense plays a scheme called "The Wide 9"

can anyone shed some light on this?

defensive ends are further out in a 4 point stance. Should be able to run up the middle on them.

Interesting. So far I'm reading Eagles fans are bashing this scheme, perhaps this is the week Gore and Hunter save the day and explode in yardage!

The defensive ends line up wide of the tackles in an attempt to speed rush around the protection.

It's only really used on passing downs, as the linebackers of the defense are left alone.

Washburn used it quite a bit during his tenure with the Titans.

It can be game planned against.

Eagles run defense pretty much got exposed by the giants last week, i have faith in hunter but gore needs to step up HUGE and of course he cant find the holes with out the gap openings in our O-LINE.

Already to the 4th game of the season . After Sunday 25% of the season is complete. And yet baseball just keeps going and going and going.....

Anyways..Vick practicing with team now. So we will see him and lets hope he see's a lot of Bowman and Willis an maybe some Aldon sprinkled in .

The wide-9 puts the defensive linemen of Philly's 4-3 front on the perimeters of the opposition's offensive line. So instead of the big guys coming off the line with a move to beat the offensive tackles, the ends use raw speed to fly around the outside – even on the strong side around the tight end – to get the quarterback.

so it's basically made to give the DE's a better angle at the QB, but it does open lanes for the RB's which the LB's need to now cover. So IDK. Smith better be ready to step up into the pocket because running out of it either way is gonna be a disaster.
