We already got the 3 guys I wanted this off-season, Akers, Applewhite and Grant, so I don't think we should sign anyone else.

I would check to see if josh johnson is available (experienced with harbaugh's brand) young with talent.
sign Gore!
Antonio Cromartie, Carlos Rogers
sign Goldson
I would also consider taking a flier on B. Edwards
I sure hope the combination of Fangio system and personnel mesh quickly and generate some qb pressure!...I don't see a stud DE left in FA
I also think we should resign A Franklin to shore up the middle.
J Johnson would add to the competition between A Smith (
), C Kaepernick (
). This would give Harbaugh a chance, he has already helped immensely in the development of one of this three. He handpicked (albeit, due to the limited options in this years draft) and A Smith (whom he had a chance to work with one on one, before the lockout)
Gore is a stud! I know he has been more injury prone but, still a beast when healthy.
Cromartie and Rogers are BOTH an upgrade over Clements, period.
Goldson can hit! I like the way he plays. AGGRESSIVE
B Edwards is a knckHead but talented. He has the ability to match up with the bigger CB's and has proven to make some pretty incredible catches. We need to address the Crabtree injury.
A Franklin should be resigned he is a good anchor in the middle. We can have better depth and more versatility.
All this to remain even, talent wise, with last year. With the hands-on coaching of Harbaugh and Fangio (experienced w X/O's) I hope this will translate into more W's.
We missed the boat on this FA. Almost feels like we are feeling "LUCKY" for next year...

1. Kreutz--agree, we are finding out in practice if Snyder of Wragge can do the job.
2. CB--agree, they need to pick up a young CB with upside.
3. WR--agree, going into game one with Morgan and Ginn doesn't inspire.
4. S--they need to find a safety who can manage the field with instincts. Maybe that is less important in Fangio's system but I doubt it. Signing Goldson if they can but not sure he will bounce back.
5. Find a RG. They need to protect the QB and put someone next to Davis who can help him develop not undermine his growth.
6. This should be first but they need to find a mentor for Baalke who's ego is not all encompassing. Someone who knows the NFL and can deal with execs from all the teams as a peer.
I believe Harbaugh will have the young guys playing like maniacs and it will be fun to watch. Hope that translates to some wins though. Some players might not buy in and they will be replaced next year.

trade a 3rd and 5th for asante
resign Lawson
resign Goldson (not too happy about this but our safties are just)
First, Asante is a cover 2 CB so not sure if he is a good fit for this defense. Two draft picks much too high a price to pay for him as well.
Second, Goldson is apparently asking for big money....not sure if that is a good investment.
Third, Lawson is likely better suited to a 4-3 defense.
My sense is the Niners are moving to address the pass rush first before they go spending a lot of money in the secondary. They also seem averse to shelling out huge contracts like the one they gave to Clements...which didn't turn out too well. Can't disagree.
At this stage, with the Niners having a new coaching staff, I think they are still in evaluation mode. In other words, they want to know what they have before they go committing big money to vets who may or may not fit it with their schemes.
I know they appear to have major weaknesses right now and they probably do. However, when you look at what Seattle had on their roster when Pete Carroll first took over and what they were able to do during the season to upgrade, the Niners might be thinking they can do the same thing.

So , It is official , 10 yrs of losing has affected our ability to land free agents and retain our own ( which is the biggest disapointment ) but where do we go from here. I think we need to be smart about our approach. I would list in order of importance the follow moves:
1. Get Olin Kurtz , Losing Bass was a blow , he was a young aggressive center with real talent and he was our draft pick. Kurtz will bring toughness and smarts to the position and will bring stability to a young line. He can also mentor the young center from Stanford who I think has real talent even though he went undrafted.
2. CB this is self explanatory , the niners over played thier hand going after Namdi they should have recognized they were not going to get him and pursued Jonathan Joseph only 26 yrs old I believe. Now we need to find a stop gap. I believe the niners will go with a Carlos rogers type or watch the wire for released players , I think Cromartie has the most talent but he is a KNuckle head who would want more money than he is worth and I don't think he LOVES the game enogh. Asante Samuel would be a great trade but you couldn't give up more than a 3rd rounder for him.
3. WR I like two options here, the first is get a kid like Malcom Floyd or James Jones both young with good size and can play, have always liked thier game with SD and GB. They cost us nothing but money as a free agent OR Trade for Steve Smith from Carolina , tough as nails an incredible competitor just flat ou plays his ASS off . Love him ! ( I also think the kid Johnson out of USC our 6th rounder is going to be special , something about this kid. He wants it and loves football . Also in the WC system certain types of players can excel see Jerry Rice !
Let me know your moves you arm chair GM's . Remember guys it aint how you start , it is how you finish. I refuse to be beaten in July, I think Harabaugh can manage this deal, may take a season but guess what I will watch every game as I always do for the last 33 yrs ( and I am only 41 ) but this season I have hope that this staff gets it ! Go NINERS
Center is the greatest concern right now, and you properly listed it as such. Olin Kruetz might be the answer, but the question is whether he fits the long term plan, whatever it might be.
Don't overlook Tony Wragge. At 6'4" and 310, he's one of the strongest guys on the team and has started at C and G. (According to a piece done a couple years ago listing Adams, Soapoaga, Bryant and Wragge as the only guys who routinely worked out with the 200 lb dumbells.) As a short-term solution (1 or 2 years), he might be a better answer than the Bears guy.
CB is gonna be a wild ride this year. Frankly, I'd rather see the youngsters get a chance than waste another year on some out of gas vet. (see Clements, Nate.) The real need is to resign Goldson so we have a defensive "QB" who can make sure the youngsters are lined up correctly and give them some support over the top. Young guys who can turn and run with WRs, improved pass rush, and help over the top--and lets see if that isn't more fun to watch than Clements lining up 10 yards deep on 3rd and 4, over and over again!
WR--I'd love to see Malcom Floyd or James Jones in a Niner uniform, but not if its gonna take a huge salary. Crabby's foot may miraculously heal towards the end of TC, but I really don't see him coexisting with Harbaugh for long. The team needs a "presence" outside to keep other team's defenses honest. There are a couple of options, and I believe we'll see one signed next week.
I, too, will see every game and hope for the best. Go Niners!

Goldson is asking for too much... Some of you guys might of forgot how he played last year. Dude cannot cover well, bottom line. He is an average FS. I hope we don't overpay for him... Honestly, I think Taylor Mays can be as good as him. Same type of player: fast, hits hard but cannot cover.
Please give me a Merton Hanks type FS, one with coverage skills. Do those guys exist anymore?
