If they sign either Edwards or Floyd, it'll be a great day. Floyd is arguably the more dependable of the two, but BE can make big plays. Plus, he wants to show the Jets he's still got it. Rogers and Goodwin are both upgrades, as well. I hope this action quells most of the Baalke bashing...
Floyd is more dependable, Edwards is more dangerous as a weapon.
Who do you thinks fits better in the WCO?
Hard to say. I don't think either receiver stands out in WCO terms - both have made their success off of the deep route. Both are big receivers, with Floyd being the bigger one. Braylon Edwards is the much better deep route runner. That's the bad thing about big receivers - they're not always the most polished route runners and don't have that sort of sudden quickness that you'll see in a lot of ideal WCO receivers.
I would rather take Braylon just because he's younger. Floyd is a big target but he was in an offense that made him look good. Plus, Braylon had an insane pro bowl year - his ceiling is much higher than Floyd's.
That's a great point. I forgot the Rivers factor. Not sure Floyd is Floyd with Sanchez in the AFC East.
Yeah. Keep in mind Braylon had better stats last year with a lesser QB. In 2007, Braylon also had 16 touchdowns and 1289 yards with Derek Anderson at the helm. Floyd has yet to even touch graze those numbers even with Rivers.
Those stats are pretty compelling. Ok, give me Edwards......apparently I'm easily convinced. Good thing I'm not a GM.
Like I said, Floyd is more consistent than Braylon, but Braylon is far more dangerous when he's "on."
I'd take Edwards.
lol, yeah more consistent at not being consistent..........

Sure seems that way. Tomorrow is a new day. Here is to finally winning our crappy division and sacking the hell out of the Rams.

I'm happy, the 49ers didn't really lose much, Spikes was on his last legs and holding back Bowman, we're not really losing anything without Clements who didn't want to restructure, Franklin played well, but not great, and he's not the traditional NT that this team needs anyways. Lawson got a 1 year deal for 3 million so obviously his value wasn't through the roof either and having an actual pass-rush from Aldon Smith offsets that loss.
Baas is the only one I was kind of upset about but with the Giants overpaying that much for him and now the 49ers signing Goodwin, its really a moot point.
If they were to sign Braylon Edwards, all these people would finally stop crying and we'd look at this as a very successful offseason, not to mention the former Pro-Bowl kicker that they signed to boot. I'm satisfied thus far. They've shown financial responsibility and restraint, no splurging on a free agent just to say they've done something. Its a very good approach and I'm excited to see what happens next.

An article on Pro Football Talk claims there are 7 teams that are over the salary cap.
Raiders ($17.3 million), Steelers ($11.5 million), Texans ($8.5 million), Vikings ($5.6 million), Lions ($5 million), Cowboys ($3.7 million), and Panthers ($939,000).
...there still could be some good picks out there.
LOL @ the raiders.
How the f**k are the Eagles not over the cap, they've only signed like half the NFL.

Great point about Akers. I'll miss Nedney but we certainly plugged that hole right up. I'm also sort of excited to see if we keep Scaccia as a KOS. It would save Akers' leg and maybe Scaccia can continue to develop. He certainly seems like he could sore up the kicking position for some years.

Good post.
On thursday contracts become official, some decent players will get cut.
WE HAVE A PLAN!
But honestly... what if, and its a big IF... but what IF Baalke & Co. planned on teams overspending in this unsure CBA climate and then having to make panic cuts when contracts become official thursday.
Obviously its speculation and we have already filled some holes with Rogers, Goodwin, potentially Edwards... but it would be nice to see us pounce on some players cut due to getting under the salary cap. IMO it would give niner fans some confidence that we may actually have one of the better FO's in the league now.
Please remember the words IF and "speculation" were the basis of that last sentance, in no way was it a statement of fact so save the negative responses for a different post.
Are you saying longtime NFL professionals might know more than the collective wisdom of the webzone? Audacious!
Wierd right?
Indubitably!
Astounding!
Epic, really.
And...PS...

Jet's Cap
Salary Cap Update- Some great news came out for the New York Jets as the dead money from the 2010 season will not be applied to this year’s cap number. This will put Gang Green approximately $8 million dollars under the salary cap for the 2011 season. The Jets should be able to create additional room by signing linebacker David Harris long term and restructuring the contract of Mark Sanchez.
Also Jason Fitzgerald from NYJetscap.com provided information regarding exemptions that teams are being offered. From Jason:
“A team may take up to three $1 million dollar exemptions for veteran players on the team by borrowing against a future cap. The credit is will be applied on a weekly basis if the player is removed from the team. In other words if the Jets used a $1 million credit on Calvin Pace and he was cut in week 8, the Jets would get a $470,588 credit for 2011.
The borrowed seasons will be reaccrued to the cap during the 2014-2017 NFL seasons. The team can choose the way the money is allocated. For example if the Jets take $3 million in credits in 2011 they can reduce each season by $750,000 or one season by $3 million. Its completely up to the team.”
Summary: The jets have 2-3 years to make their SB runs before management starts butting heads with players due to overplaying or underplaying their contract. That is never an optimum situation.
Eagles are in this same boat too, whether they jetison Samuel now or next year, the writing is on the wall. Desaun is gonna wanna get paid and Maclin may want in on some of those spendings.
They reach the point to make a run and took their shot... lets see how it goes. Cause in two years it will be gone.

Goodwin signing is good.
If we get Braylon or Floyd, it could be a gamechanger.
