How knowledgeable is the 49ers fanbase AS A WHOLE?

Everyone who is responding to me saying they were rooting for ANYBODY and not just against Alex Smith. Please read the entire thread. I've made this pretty clear already.

I'm not questioning your credentials as Niner fans, I'm questioning your logic and apparently our experiences might have been different. I'll explain.

If you honestly wanted just anybody but Smith, I get that frustration, but I don't agree. That is something we can agree to disagree on. I never wanted anyone on the roster to play last year except Alex Smith, but only because I thought he was just better than Troy and David Carr and still do. I just want the best players on the field and wished the front office gave the Niners a better option to bring in if Alex struggled. NOT David Carr...or Troy Smith for that matter.

Secondly, in my experience most people I spoke with were CONVINCED David Carr was a better option. I disagreed.

Why are you guys so upset about it anyways. I get it, you hate Alex Smith. I hate that the front office hasn't gotten ONE legitimate option besides Alex Smith, but that wouldn't lead me to cheer for David Carr to come into ANY game (AND I LOVE DAVID CARR, GO BULLDOGS!!)

If you just wanted to make some political statement...Good for you! However, from my experience, the common fan (probably NOT WZ types) were so blinded by their hatred for Alex Smith, they convinced themselves Carr was a better option when he simply wasn't. If that is NOT you, then relax. I get your point and honestly, we'll never agree on it.

I said this earlier and I'll say it again:
Either way, GO NINERS and if Alex is the starter, God I hope he's better than in the past. I also hope we find a replacement if continues to play at the level he has played at. We can ALL agree on that.

2+2 does equal 4, correct? The only people who could have been chanting that are the ones at the game, which you said the majority of, have no clue what they are talking about. Therefore, the "knowledgeable fans" aren't at the game...

Either way, I don't think that chant was actually about wanting Carr in the game as much as it was about not wanting Smith in the game anymore. Everyone could have chanted, we want Montana but, that most likely wouldn't have gotten Smith out of the game, which is what everyone actually wanted.

I've discussed the whole "WE WANT CARR" thing extensively, so please read my last response and I hope that clears it up as much as I possible can.

I'll say this about knowledgeable fans at The Stick. Most of the fans around my seats that come to watch the games know very little. It's okay. They just want to see the Niners win and when we do, everyone is happy. If they don't, well everyone is NOT happy. The majority of the season ticket holders that I see every week at the games...They know their stuff.

I think most fans know very little and I don't expect much, but that goes for ANY team and any major sport. Not just Niner fans. I'm sure most of the people on here who take the time out of their lives during the offseason to post on the WZ and read the articles probably know quite a bit. While disagreements might occur, I would find it hard to believe if the majority of us on the spot couldn't name all our practice squad players. We're all complete nutjobs and should probably find something better to do, but god damn it, we love the Niners.

I just don't think the majority of the fans I see at the stadium are like that.

it seems like a lot of members like to say something to get a rise out of others... It definitely seems like it gets worse each season. We should all be able to have decent conversations since we are all fans of the same team, the way things go down are almost like some of us are 49er fans and the rest cowboy fans or something.

And I love David Carr. I'm a Fresno State fan and will always like the guy and remember his college days. He's simply not a great NFL player and Alex Smith is DRAMATICALLY better than anyone else on the roster at QB...unfortunately I might add.

What fans like you don't understand to this day is that it wasn't so much that Carr was the answer, it was the fact that it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Smith wasn't. If Troy had been dubbed 2nd string QB at the time, although awkward, it would have been "We want Smith!", or more appropriately "We want Troy!".

Point; bad example. Move on from this. Bandwagon or not, it does not take a truly dedicated fan to realize the obvious sometimes. This was as obvious as it gets.

You really think voicing your displeasure on these forums is more effective than thousands voicing our opinion in front of the people who can actually do something about it? It was been 8 years of this bulls**t and we were fed up. It sent a pretty damn strong message and they did something about it.

I am more embarrassed to have Alex on the field and be the laughing stock of the NFL because everybody else sees what this organization has failed to see year after year.

Uninformed? The results on the field speak louder than anything else! That's what all fans, bandwagon or not, all see.

I said it was embarassing. Are you under the impression that calling for David Carr actually made a difference? Yeah, thats why Alex Smith will be a 49er AGAIN this year.

No matter what you think of Alex, he is a FAR better QB than David Carr. To chant for David Carr does NOTHING but make you look stupid. All that the chanting accomplished was making the already bad team into even more of a laughing stock than they already were.

Yes. Uninformed. Most people could show up to games every weekend and still not have the first clue what they are looking at. I've spoken to SeasonTicket holders who are completely freakin' clueless. They couldn't even name all the starters.

I could see how actually winning games and breaking a losing streak could send you into madness....because it was the wrong qb doing it
