I came here to say this.

BTW that we want carr chant, while it sucked I was slightly intrigued to see what if anything Carr could do different. So I didn't support the chant because I like alex, but I was wondering if Carr had improved at all.

Agree...just cause there was a "we want Carr" chant didn't mean we thought he was a pro bowl QB being held back...just meant we need to try something different...Remember when S.Hill came in and sparked the offence...I think we were looking for something like that...nothing wrong with it...and it's not just here...I can give you many examples of other teams where the 2nd string QB was more popular then the starter...

IMO...fan intelligence is about even going across the league...it all averages out....well maybe the Raider fans might still be bellow everyone else...lol

See... Why is this so hard for others to understand?

I have been around here for about 3-4 years now, (lurked for the first 2)
it seems like a lot of members like to say something to get a rise out of others... It definitely seems like it gets worse each season. We should all be able to have decent conversations since we are all fans of the same team, the way things go down are almost like some of us are 49er fans and the rest cowboy fans or something.

Thats madness.

Madness is what I was suffering from last year when Troy Smith was on the field.

I could see how actually winning games and breaking a losing streak could send you into madness....because it was the wrong qb doing it

Yeah. Thats why Troy Smith will be a 49er this year....oh wait, what?

One good game. One.

You act as if i care, hes no longer here

Com'n you can do better....

Just sayin', its not as if Troy Smith (outside of the Rams game) was setting the world on fire. It was pretty clear he wasn't a starting quality player.

I agree, that hes not an all-star, but then again he was a late round pick(notice i didnt say first overall) and did what late round picks are expected to do.....and thats win a few games anything else was just gravy. I was just pointing out that he helped brake a losing streak and win a few games, isnt that what matters at the end of the day? I feel like people around here are ungrateful for that...

Clear enough?

I would have gone with passionate and faithful fans allowing their frustration to get the better of them, and asking for something without considering the consequences. But I get your point.

Well, I agree with you, but sometimes the lines between passionate and faithful and uninformed get blurred.

The problem is that when you look at something based solely on passion, you very often don't see things as they are. You see them simply as not being how you WANT them to be so you blindly react without reason.

IE, You chant "We want CARR!!" at a football game.

Troy Smith was a backup QB and did his job. He won a few winnable games and got smoked by superior opponents. I have nothing against what he did last year because it was about what you would expect a backup to do. I agree.

But let's try and talk about the OPs topic!

Yeah, he wasn't specific. I just took it as a generalization of his gameplay

Im by far the most knowledgeable fan in the world, all of you lower grade fans only wished that you had my skillz.
I am so sick and tired of ALex apologists talking down to us for chanting for Carr. You guys act as if us chanting for Carr is a reason why 49er fans are not knowledgeable. Thats comedy to me. The only reason we were chanting for Carr is because he was our 2nd stringer, nothing more.

Let me ask you this. Pick a team where you think the team has knowledgeable fans. Dont you think fans of that team would have been booing ALex and chanting for the backup if he was their QB for 6 abysmal years?

Wouldnt ALex have been run out of town years ago in Philadelphia? Dallas? Pittsburgh?

(Also I find it completely comical that you ALex apologists say its embarrassing that we were chanting for a terrible quarterback, when said quarterback's career QB rating was higher than ALex's. Just funny to me)

This, he had one good game. The rest of the time he looked so bad, watching him was more embarassing than watching Cody Picket QB for us.

Coaching didnt have anything to do with Troys performance? They're game planning was tremendous with Troy at the helm, and put him in the best situation to succeed, it was just that Troy sucked, right? Boy the double standard on here is hilarious...

Hmm, that's debatable. I'm sure there are passionate fans for each team. I have friends that are HARDCORE Raider, Packer, Viking, and Chief fans.

I cant wait for the day the 49ers go into Arrowhead and destroy the Chefs 63-0.

I'm sick of anyone having a rational opinion of Alex Smith being called an "Alex apologist".

Iwant a new QB, but I also recognize that he's not nearly as bad as he's portrayed.

I get that the Carr chant was simply because he was the only "other guy". Thats kinda my point. Irrational.
Honestly I dont think our fans are that knowledgable. They're not as stupid and mindless as some other teams but our fans complain about everything.

I said in another thread that Coaching did make troy worse than he is, but if you replace Troy with Alex, I believe people call that an Alexcuse.

J/k

Anyways back on topic... 49er fans seem to be highly knowledgeable, and since we have had 8 losing seasons we have a realistic view on what is good or bad. Now compare that to those buc fans that came in here last season, saying they were going to the superbowl and that josh freeman was the 2nd coming of Joe montana.....

yeah..
