list of players in attendance.

The collection of 49ers players includes Alex Smith, Joe Staley, Mike Iupati, Adam Snyder, Josh Morgan, Ted Ginn, Ronald Johnson, Kevin Jurovich, Patrick Willis, Justin Smith, Ray McDonald, Will Tukuafu, Parys Haralson, Thaddeus Gibson, Nate Clements, Taylor Mays, Isaac Sopoaga, Curtis Taylor. A couple other players, such as Eric Heitmann and Joe Nedney, are working out separately in the Bay Area, as they attempt to rehabilitate from season-ending injuries

Really wish Brooks was there for the conditioning...

Am I missing something? Where's Crabs, he is in the bay right?

I am dissapointed with no Brooks, A.Davis and VD.

Crabs was spotted in the bay area, and I think he will join soon, where Gore I think is working on his own getting healthy.

Kaep is likely with Andrew Luck, as he is tutoring Kaep. I wanna see Aldon, HUnter, CUlliver and the rest, but i dont blame them, since they have no contracts.

-talked about how the whole luck 'teaching him the O' was blown out of proportion. Kaep Only talked to him briefly, never worked out with him, only discussed basic concepts

Thanks for the post!

Noticably absent; Anthony Davis. Our 2010 first round pick and worst RT in the league, statistically speaking. Someone tweet that mofo to get on the field.

Agree...If Iupati is out there doing his part then Davis needs to be out there. All the young talent needs to be out there...

According to his tweets he is living it up in Vegas while getting those paper toilet seat covers stuck to his ass.

Maybe he dont live in the Bay area.

I can give you 16million guaranteed reason why that is not an excuse...Davis needs to put down the Twitter and pick up his play book and GET TO WORK...

Well to be honest my main concern is really the offense, and just like MM said, it's really the QB and Wr's that should be doing a lot of the work.

Thats really the combo that needs to gel in order to be effective. Now like someone mentioned what if they are running the wrong things.

As far as offense is concerned, Alex was known for his smarts, so i'd assume he gets all of the playbook, just have to work on implementing it.

And to be honest even if Alex, Kap, and or the WR group didnt work on plays so to speak, they can still work on reading each others body language, and style of cutting so that if a play is being run, and they have a certain matchup they want to exploit, then they'd be on the same page as to where the WR will lead the defender to find open space.

Overall, i'll take what we have so far, but the main person I want to see out of everybody is Crabs.

Yeah but are they receiving the right coaching tip? Otherwise it is like the blind leading the blind. How can you tell the WR to go this way instead of this way if you don't know what is best? I remember simple things like Walsh talking to the WR after catching the ball, to break this way instead of that way, that way if he misses you got a clear open field to the endzone for a bigger gain. As they say attention is in the details.

I'm talking bear crawls, wind sprints and team calastetics. These guys know enough about the basics to get together and push each other. It's all about who wants it. Anyway, IMHO.

A route tree is a route tree... down, distance, coverage and time left in the period determine allot of the "details" you are talking about. There is a concern that players may coach other players different than what the WR coach would want, but overall the chance of that happening during simple receiving drills is minimal. (dont think there is any offense vs defense due to risk of injury)

The coaching from other WR's probably involves his footwork, unnecessary steps, not rounding routes, etc. as well as what "works" and "doesn't work" in the NFL compared to the college level. Things that as a Vet, they already went through when they joined the NFL and can relay those fundamentals and messages to the rookies. Another example of where more participation in these workouts at all positions would benefit the team as a whole.

Don't care. Put yourself in their position. Some of these guys are on their 3rd coach, they can't have any contact with the new staff, they aren't getting paid, they could get hurt and jeopardize their career for basically nothing, the league did fine before 1000 OTAs. If it was me I'd take advantage of the ability to heal up too.

More players needed at 49ers' workouts

More than 30 Raiders are meeting outside Atlanta this week for player-organized practices.

In northern Virginia, approximately 40 Redskins are doing the same, the second time that team has assembled in as many months.

Similar sessions are being held by Saints in New Orleans, Dolphins in South Florida and Bills in western New York.

In the Bay Area? Attendance has been comparatively sparse.

About a dozen 49ers have been working out together since the lockout began in March.

The most dedicated members – offensive lineman Joe Staley and defensive lineman Justin Smith have been the ringleaders – deserve recognition.

Am I the only guy completely annoyed by this? Where are our "leaders?" It is no wonder we haven't produced a winning season in 8 years and can't manage to rally in the 4th when it counts. This team lacks true leadership or at least enough guys with passion to be great. I dont want to hear about guys working out cross-country, we need to build chemistry, like the military. If I'm Harbaugh I'm holding a grudge and anyone not practicing right now will be competing for their starting position come camp.

I feel better now...

this has been our biggest problem. we always draft these guys based on talent and passion second. i hate these boom or bust picks we make every year.
^^

kaep said so himself the luck thing is overblown so he isnt working with luck he just called him to get some advice

This is why it is more understandable that the rookies may not be attending as they dont have contracts in place.

Couple things though... the risk of injury is the same whether they are running wind sprints by themselve in Miami or in the bay as a team. Allot of WR's hire QB's in the offseason to throw them passes, the risk is the same... but why not have your actual QB throw you the passes instead of the Dilfer's of the world. If these were competitive practices I think allot of fans would be more understanding as the players would be putting themselves at risk they wouldn't normally be exposed to.

IMO guarenteed money is a goodwill payment that you will be a benefit to your team in these types of circumstances. For example players are allowing other players to stay at their homes or paying for their flights in/out of the bay. This is what I would hope from those players that hit massive guarenteed paydays, not just to show up to official workouts as defined in their contract.

I really don't see the issue here. There are no coaches...what the hell's the point? There's no one there to coach you or tell you what you're doing right/wrong.

As long as the guys are staying in shape on their own time i don't see a problem.

Much ado about nothing.

This is a simple concept and football has ALWAYS been about this concept; no work, no progress. What made the Niners great in the past wasn't just the coaching, it was the work ethic the team had that came from their coach. There's a reason why the 49ers players had "legendary" work ethics. It wasn't just talk. When you're prepared you develop a swagger. Like many previous 49ers have said, we had many teams beat before we ever played a game. Confidence. It comes from being prepared.

No work. No progress. You control your own fate in the NFL.

Just that simple.

Well said. That concept can apply to basically everything in life.

No doubt. Why do you think I work so hard posting on the Zone. I'm preparing to get fired....
it sucks because we want to see them out there but from their point of view, they don't have contracts, they don't have a coach really, their Qb is running drills and he's not under contract. If i was in in their shoes, and i didn't live in the area, i would probably study the playbook at home and continue to do workout drills at home.
This thread isn't getting nearly enough hits.......
