Knowing our luck with the league we'd have Harbaugh talk to our players and lose draft picks. I bet the patriots or jets would get away with it though

what does it matter if goodell talks with players? it's not like he's trying to re-sign them to a team.

To me Goodell is attempting to define a practice. More or less, NFL players are paid a salary. They socialize a lot more than they practice. If teams can socialize together they can easily disguise a team meeting. Laugh at me, but this seeming chatty act may very well change the game of football. Sounds ridiculous, but I can see this changing the amount of time coaches will interact with their players. Once the collective bargaining agreement is resolved we will continue to have regular training camp and the off season. What will change is the amount of time players will be attending "social" engagements at the practice facility. Added benefit, the NFL already controls the players during the season and Goodell casual call to Ochocinco might possible get the players under the NFL's thumb for the rest of their year. Could this be Goodell's way to gain more power over the players. Looks like it to me.

Normal social interaction? Did Gooddell call up Chad like,"Hey! Whatcha doin?"
Slippery slope, indeed. Niners need to be careful here. We've already been fined for Harbaugh talking to Alex, and I think we're all aware that the Niners are not one of the favored teams in the league. We get caught too far over the line on this, and the league won't hesitate to lay a little smack down on us to prove a point.

the league came down on us because our coaches were trying to be smarter than they actually were. i think harbaugh is a lot smarter than sing and nolan

I agree that Harbaugh is probably smarter than Sing and Nolan, or, at least, more savvy in his move-making. It is important to remember, however, that we were punished under both regimes. And I guarantee that the league will be watching all of the teams it just fined. I merely advise caution in any dealings between players and coaches.
