What I mean is, it seems to me that it's a rule favoring the defense since you can pin the other team inside the 10 easier because you're kicking from the 35 instead of the 30. You also get more touchbacks. It seems to me that quite often, the other team had pretty good field position after we'd score and at the start of a half. We seemed to have a hard time IMO containing the speedy returners. I can think of 1 game that unfavorable field position cost us just off the top of my head(the 2009 game at Seattle where they got the ball at the 41 or something like that and only needed 20 or 30 yards to get into FG range). We are mainly a defensive team. Our defense wasn't great but they are probably the strength of our team, since we don't have a great QB and our recievers are pretty young and unpolished. We'll probably add to the defensive talent we have by drafting one of Peterson, Miller, or Quinn. We don't score very many TDs but we have a good kicker so we are able to get a lot of FGs. The only problem is, when the other team gets the ball at the 35 or the 40, it's pretty easy for them to match our FG with one of theirs even if they're unable to score a TD on that play. Thoughts? I don't like the rule very much as it affects the game, but if it helps our team out I'll gladly take it.

This rule change is changing the game as we know it. When, not if, there is a significant injury more rules changes will happen. IMO arena football is the future of pro football. Padded sidelines, fewer big bodies, the return game taken out of the picture and on and on. There is such an excitement to be at a game for the opening kickoff - that is taken away. A quarterback can no longer be hit, you can't touch a receiver until he's 5 yards past the line of scrimmage, the game is mutating into something that old and new fans will no longer associate with.

What they are doing is taking away the action of the game. Hey, our modern gladiator sport is becoming obsolete.

The future is the UFL. The transition is already happening. More and more NFL players and coaches are going over to the UFL. Keep in mind these are a bunch of has beens or have never beens but they still allow football the way it was meant to be played. I guess Marty Shotinheimer and Gerry Glanville will be good for the UFL.

They trying to make it mainstream for tv. They don't want a death on live tv to kill there golden cash cow. That's all it's about

IMO it takes Kickoff returners out of Special teams and will increase the number of onside kicks attempted.

Does it help us??? Not any more than any other team...

We have Brad Seely, one of the top ST coaches in the NFL...so our ST's figure to improve. If Nedney's our K again, the new rule benefits him, as he seldom kicks into the end zone from the 30. If we draft Peterson and Harbaugh allows him to return kicks, we'll have an improved return game.
