I know, he made Ray Lewis what he was. Lewis was on his way to being a bust after that horrible 2000 season.

Crabtree needs to learn anywhere he can. Bruce helped Morgan with route running and Rice could do the same for all the receivers on the team. Egos are fragile things though.

If Crabtree continues to miss training camp (if there is one this year) and refuses to listen to the coaches, whoever they are, then I think Buffalo is a good place for him to play. What a loss for him and the 9ers though!

I recently watched a show called "Hey Rookie" and it featured 4 or 5 rookies and one of them was Crabtree. It showed him leading up to the draft and in one clip, it had Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice at Crabs workout. I don't recall Rice ever ripping Crabs...

Rice ripped Crabtree when he decided to hold out.

Like to see what he could do with Ted Ginn, that guy needs a big dose of Jerry Rice.

He was never the most naturally gifted, but he was the most determined. Jerry's fanatic work ethic around these players would probably force all of them to raise their standards. He was always one of those people that made those around him better. His obsession with winning and being great has been known to be contagious. That would be nice for this new generation of 49ers.

It might be a good idea to approach him before Al Davis gets the idea.

It seems players that were mediocre have better success coaching than the Hall of Fame types. Look at baseball, the great Ted Williams failed as a coach and Babe Ruth wasn't wanted, while a career .250 hitting back up like Billy Martin has great success. In basketball Pat Riley, a 7th or 8th man has great success and Magic Johnson bombs. I think they might expect too much, wondering why everyone can't be as good as them.

I agree Bob. Not all great players become great coaches. Some just have so much talent and the will to win its hard to coach that. In some situations it can workout good but for the most part I think the ones that are not really talented end up doing better.
