I hope not.

Why lock the one about him negociating a contract with us? I think it's perfectly worth discussion.

some one made one about the topic of him being resigned and it got locked

Well he might resign. He's negociating with us. So we should discuss that.

The article said that he wants to test the Free Agency market(whenever the CBA gets worked out)

Who's lining up to sign him?

not sure but i remember reading something that some teams were willing to give him a chance

add me to the list

Yah and our 2011 season will be officially done. Might as well start the Andrew Luck watch if Alex re-signs.

Maybe then I'll post more often here.

Meaning they can discuss Alex Smith, but not members of the forum... correct?

The problem with all the A Smith thread is that it becomes a bickering thread, all the pro's and con's rehashed and the anti and pro A Smith going at it that it becomes personal for some.

For the meantime, unless he's signed, let's try and keep the A Smith talk in check.

Are there talks of signing the underperforming Manny Lawson too? At least with Alex, we got a great shot of landing Andrew Luck next year.

Is Harbaugh becomin a little gay for Smith???

he's all up in his vagina more than the Smith backers in here

u better know what the f*ck are u doing Harbaugh cuz this can easily doom your NFL career just like that

wow dude. it's quite obvious we need a qb since we only have 1 signed to the team. it works out best for both parties.

look i'm sure if he signs it's a 1 yr deal 2 yr at the most & i bet he will be our main backup. I see us trading for a qb & drafting one in the 2nd or 3rd round.

He wouldn't be the best backup but he wouldn't be the worst. i'm not huge on the guy but given the situation & the fact we only have 1 qb i think it's a no brainer, you have to bring him back.

This is what awaits him if he comes back.

Everybody is anti or pro Alex Smith... There are no neutral people.

I'm neutral.

I don't care one way or the other if he is re-signed.

I trust Harbaugh's judgment.

I also believe him when he says that there will be competition.

Even if he does re-sign, it doesn't mean he's going to start.

Wait...isn't this tampering? Won't the NFL punish us because we're talking to a player's agent...before the CBA gets dealt with?

We can be certain Smith's agent has already contacted other teams and knows exactly who is interested and who isn't. Condon is a VERY good agent and will also have the talks with the 49ers.

At this point, Alex also wants to know where Harbaugh is on the deal as well. It is clear he will have multiple choices to compete for a starting job as well as numerous backup opportunities. Condon is doing his best work to get his client a good deal with a good team. He won't go to another situation that will be just like the last 6 years.

On another note, I would refer ppl to the Scott Ostler column linked in NT. Good overview on a number of matters, including discussions of Alex Smith.

No because the current CBA hasn't expired yet.

It'll be tampering if we negotiate after March 3rd.
