Clearly Harbaugh has seen something in Smith that he feels is worth pursuing.

A good coach can get a lot more out of an average player than people realize. By the same token, a poor coach can turn an average player into nothing.

By the way, why is it that both Nolan and Singletary were fired?

Hey another Alex Smith Thread......more more.........we need more.....

no s**t, not only does he have a lot of threads, they seem to be the most popular ones too, really he should have 1 thread and thats it, maybe an iq test should be required before attempting to create a new alex smith thread?

Agreed. And this thread fails that test.

Why is it that a small hardcore are so intent on not only running Smith out of town regardless of consequences to the team, but in also trying to deny others the opportunity of even discussion the possibilities.

I'm out for the day. Y'all have fun....

What would these consequences be?

You mean we wouldn't start off 0-5?

Lose to the Panthers?

Miss the playoffs all 6 years of Smith's career?

I lol hard at the presumption that without Smith we'd be doomed. You can't get any worse than missing the playoffs EVERY YEAR of your career.

Frank Gore pass blocking at 1:38...guy is a beast...takes the guy 10 yards out of the play and pancakes him.

Good video.

Shows his lack of pocket presence and vision greatly.

If he shifts around correctly in the pocket he has some open throws.

One where the DB fell down and our guy was wide open for a TD.

In that case Alex might be the only one able to start a post on himself then
But seriously Alex is good when he can control the game, operate within the formations he is comfortable with. That is why he is so good at 2 or 4 minute drills and inside the redzone. Outside of that, he has a hard time adapting to a coordinators ideas if he doesn't think it fits the situation. If Harbaugh wants him back and they can work something out with Roman such as: propose a formation and let Alex make the call at the line (after all he is extremely intelligent and for lack of a better or worse term, he is one hell of a game manager).

Personally, if we are going to focus on a 60/40 run/pass WCO their aren't much better options then Alex, maybe trade for Matt Flynn and draft a rookie. Have Smith and Flynn compete for the starting gig and go with the winner? After all McCarthy was part of the system that drafted Smith and maybe snatching up another prospect that learned McCarthy's system could only mean good things for both Flynn and Smith. Smith has more experience then Flynn but Flynn has extensive time with a WCO playbook, and they could feed off each other.

I have to admit the only reason why this guy is talked about so much is because he shows sighns of being an elite QB in the NFL.....but also he shows sighns of being the biggest bust in NFL history (thanks Ryan Leaf)....but all in all I think if JH just lets him do his thing and just throw the damn ball I think Alex Smith will be just fine.......because he is so smart he thinks too much, thats like a golfer thinking about all the things in his swing right before he hits the ball, its all about inSTINKS and I think right now Smith's STINKS.lol But if Harbaugh thinks he can develope him....then I say what I have been saying.....IN JIM I TRUST!...but for a saftey net, sighn Colt Brennan, draft Matt Flynn and whoever comes out alive (hopefully Brennan) thats who is taking us on the podium and raising our 6th!
