every thing starts with the run but it's how you run not run up the got and cloud of dust like the Dingelbery , you have to have sweebs , tosses off tackle , off gards , bulling , screens even it's not runs but similar to it !

running isnt bad if you mix it up

Singletary & Raye kept running the same run play every time

1st down:

I formation

Motion Josh Morgan down, he stops near a tackle

run up the middle

2 down:
Repeat

3rd down:
If 3rd and long = draw

if 3rd and short = repeat downs 1 & 2

Lynch seems to be one of the only reasonable, non-sensationalistic, non-speculative, non-highly opinionated sports writers in the bay (at least that covers the NFL). I wouldn't be suprised to see a run-heavy offense, especially if we end up starting a rookie QB. Harbaugh's offense at Stanford seemed to be pretty run-heavy. I am okay with runs as long as it is not 50 runs up the middle all game. We had a fairly balanced attack of run:pass ratio, but our runs were soooooo basic, they were incredibly boring to watch and very predictable...

Harbaugh is gonna do whatever matchups are advantagous to us winning and moving the ball

As long as he doesn't telegraph that he plans to run 60/40 to the rest of the league...

I hope he says this, and does the opposite and confuses the f**k out of teams.

Lynch isn't that great. I agree he's better than Kawakami and Cohn BUT he's a distant fourth behind Barrows, Maiocco, and Eric Branch.


Lynch is not the 49ers beat writer you're looking for...

That one one word will make all the difference in the run game! Hell all the difference in the entire game, Singletary was right to be committed to running the ball and having balance in the offense, he was just a f**king caveman. Singletary was running a high school playbook! It was so basic and easily read nothing ever really had a chance, you might out muscle a team on a play or two, but you better be able to use some finesse and trickery or you will be found out, and we all saw what happened when teams found us out!

Running the ball is good.

You still have to run the ball once and a while even if your a strictly passing team, ask the colts who didn't now sitting at home and the packers who have learned too, and on their way to the super-bowl.

the point is to not let the other team know exactly what your going to do, unlike what we have had in the past.

Kawakami and Cohen are horrible as well.

Lynch just always seems to me to be a week or so behind. He just never seems to know something we don't already know.

Kawakami just says stuff to piss people off and Cohn is just a crochety old man.

The only peeps to follow are the Matts....Maiocco and Barrows.

That's the point right there... Harbaugh will use typical WCO fashion to "pass to open up the run" - as Walsh used to. The Niners used to finish as one of the top running teams in the league under Walsh/Seifert/Mooch in the WCO. It was because we used quick slants and short passes like they were runs on 1st/2nd downs, and were able to soften the D up, so we could pound the run later. Roger Craig, Ricky Watters, John Taylor didn't get their yards in a no-run offense.

It is a common misperception that the WCO is "pass heavy"... It is really more "pass smart" then hammer it down their throats late in the game. Instead of running on 2nd and 2, you do a play action pass. You don't run on every 1st down.

You script the first 20/25 plays to keep the D guessing, and to test out the D to ensure you have the right formula - AND to establish a rhythm with no delay-of-game penalties - which was really helpful on the road in a hostile crowd.

The WCO simply lets you run more effectively - which means you will get more yards/rush. Our yards/pass attempt might come down (Montana often led the league in passer rating, even TDs, etc., but yards/pass attempt were not up top). So, yes, we will continue to focus on the run - or do what it takes to best use the talent we have (which has strong RBs and TEs). Look for VD to figure big in the gameplan. And... Crabs et al better be ready to catch the quick slants in front of the LBs if they want the ball more. And WRs blocking will be big - instead of standing around after the play doesn't go their way...

I love it! Most of us who were Niner fans in the late 70s, and through the Bill Walsh build-up are pretty up on the way the WCO/Bill Walsh O (and it's modern variations) work. We are lucky to have this part of our heritage back. We will be one of the top rushing teams in the league again very soon! BUT, we will also have one of the most effective QBs around - and top 10 WRs - and a league-leading TE!

Now, let's worry about the D!

The forward pass is just a fad, like the internet and the car.
