“People ask me, ‘What makes you prepared?’ ” Baalke said. “One of the things you look at that’s important, whether you’re hiring coaches or front-office people, is have they gone through all the steps? Have they started at the bottom and worked their way up? Now if you got someone who fits that profile, it’s not definitely going to work, but it’s a proven model for success.

“I haven’t missed any of the steps. And that’s one reason I feel very prepared for this opportunity.”

I know. But honestly, many teams would have hired him if they were in that situation. I think we went 5-4, the players looooved him, and he apparently just needed a good OC to help him out.

Just glad we've moved on from that nightmare.

Still, thankfully Baalke isn't wearing that decision.

It was comical to watch as a lot of people thought that Singletary was going to be so different than his mentor...

It's a good piece that hasn't had much play. There's some good info on Baalke's background and ascent. It was written before the Harbaugh hire.

Quote:
“Trent Baalke is a football guy through and through, with a very good understanding of the game and a very sound evaluation process,” said Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff. “And he’s driven – he has a tireless work ethic. He’ll do everything in his power to help restore that organization to prominence.”

There's no guarantee that Baalke/Harbaugh will be the next Dimitroff/Smith, but I think there's reason to be optimistic.

I'm in the pantry . . . looking for the kool-aid.

This says it perfectly.

The more I hear, the more it sounds like they didn't love him at the end. He needed a lot more than an O.C. The guy is an idiot. Great for guys like Vernon that needed a father figure. Most of the 53 man roster didn't need a father figure. That has to get old.

All I've read and heard about Baalke from people around the league agree he's a good football guy. The "experts" on the zone don't agree. I'll take the people who might actually have knowledge about the guy.

Mike Vick got a 2nd chance but Trent Baalke can't even get a 1st shot with some 9er fans!
Baalke comes off more like a straight shooter than a weasel like Lombardi. The more I hear Baalke talk, the more of a Baalke booster I become.

Singletary might make a decent coach somewhere else, like Tampa Bay. He just needs a good OL and a power back, something that we don't have. He's energetic and has some other positives, but his biggest mistake was hiring Jimmy Raye. Singletary isn't the brightest coach, but if he just surrounds himself with talented coordinators, he just might succeed. He needs to understand that you have to be creative in this league nowadays. That '85 Bears crap doesn't work anymore. I bet we would've made the playoffs had we kept Mike Martz. Just because you have a HC that believes in running the ball, doesn't mean that you can't have a creative OC running the show. Look at the Bears. They made it work somehow.

The Singletary hiring wasn't that bad, but Singletary screwed it up by hiring Jimmy Raye.
i know he didn't hire him, just saying how funny baalke makes that comment. we have all heard he and singletary didn't really get along and the reason they probably didn't get along is because baalke has been in the business a long time and likely saw through singletarys cheerleader/tough guy antics
i like baalkes raspy voice, sounds like was on a bender the night before everytime i hear him talk

Singletary screwed it up by THINKING he knew something about offense...
