i cant understand why professionals make these mistakes. all theyve done their whole lives was play football. how do you make those mental mistakes? how dumb are you? you can criticize coaching for discipline, but if a long time veteran CB doesnt have the common sense to protect the football and know the situation, he isnt going to change. we need to shed our team of all the players who make dumb mistakes. Ted Ginn not getting out of bound immediately after the catch to end the game today is completely inexcusable. how do you not know the situation???

Ok I have really had enough of this stupid hate towards Clements. 1 - We gave Clements 80 million, why? Because he was the BEST available at the time, and we had to overpay a bit because the team sucks. Would you have preferred they signed someone else? Maybe had a 6th round pick start instead? No - then you just would have bit@#ed that the 49ers don't spend money on players.
As to the "Clements single handedly cost us that Atlanta game"...really? Well if he doesn't make that INT, then Atlanta still has the ball anyway. So he didn't cost us the game, he just didn't save us the game like it looked like he was going to. You blame a 49ers defender for trying to do something with the ball - first off, it's called instinct. Secondly, HAVE YOU SEEN THE 49ERS OFFENSE?? yes all they had to do was kneel down, but when you're a defender that has played a TON of minutes because your offense has been pathetic the last couple of YEARS - you feel like you need to do something when the opportunity presents itself.
Good TEAMS don't put themselves into a position where one mistake by one player will cost them the win.
lol defend him all you want, but he cost us that game. yes, he made the pick. very good. he did his job. thats what we PAY him to do, he isnt doing us a favor that is forgiven if he fumbles it away. he gets paid HUGE money to be a smart veteran CB. he made the play, and instead of knowing the situation and falling to the ground, he starts running for a TD and doesn't protect the ball. its pure idiocy.
your logic is like saying "well the kicker drilled that 50 yd game tying FG at the last second, so when he shanked the kick wide right from 25 yds out in OT, and we ended up losing the game, its ok. we wouldnt have been in OT without him anyways, no big deal."
the year we signed him, youre right, there wasnt a better option. but we didnt have to spend 80 mil on anyone. we were a crappy team. crap teams that are missing tons of pieces to the winning puzzle dont go sign one of them for 80 mil. you rebuild via the draft and wait til you need 1 or 2 pieces to complete that winning puzzle, THEN you spend 80 mil on a f/a. Clements was paid big bucks to play "decent" CB for a few years, and terrible CB for a couple years, all in a span of time where we never were even good enough to make the playoffs. we couldve not made the playoffs with a minimum salary draft pick at CB.
the whole point is, Clements was overrated the day we paid him, hes been overrated the entire time hes been here, and he makes bonehead plays way too often for his experience level. nobody should be defending him. if you bought his jersey, im sorry, but he stole money from this team.
