Been sayin' that for a while now...coaching sucks and we cant have a successful QB till thats fixed.

BTW Troy is just a flash in the pan in what had been a terrible decade. Alex is obviously more talented and better and gives us the best chance to win but it doesn't even matter until we get a competent coach in to straighten people out.

You do realize that if any qb went through what Alex went through they all would have failed. The reason why qb's are good are because of their coaches. Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady would not be who they are today if they had idiotic head coaches and different coordinators every year. Even Joe Montana wouldn't have been as great as he was without Bill Walsh.

It's tough to look good when our offense goes run, run, 3rd and 8, incomplete pass.
It points out two things that the fans and the rest of the NFL already know...

1. Alex is just okay. He is not a terrible QB, but needs legitimate coaching to be a decent backup.
2. Our coaching has hamstrung our team so many times this year.

I don't think that all QBs would have failed, much of the failure was because alex just sucks. Not every thing can be blamed on coaching. I believe even if he had gone to a good team he still would have failed.

Not just Alex but most of our players...inconsistent and throwing games away with their sad excuse of NFL caliber play. It's a reflection of our crappy coaching and leadership.

Sure, coaching and scheme mean nothing. Look at our own Steve Young as a prime example. Most of 49er land either forgets that Steve was pretty ordinary when playing for Tampa. You don't think it helped Steve to sit and learn from Joe and Bill all those years? He knew the playbook inside out by the time he was our starter and had practiced with our players for years to get chemistry. You actually think he would have develped into what he became as a 49er if he had stayed with the crappy Tampa team?

No Alex supporter says that Alex would be a Manning or Brady at this point with better coaching and scheme. What we say is the coaching and scheme has limited his and our entire offensive developement. To say otherwise is ignorant! Who knows what his potential is? If placed in a spread type system like the Pat's use for Brady, I think Alex becomes a very servicable qb in this league. Maybe not but we will never find out here because our crappy coaching staff plays to its own vision but not to our players strengths.
Been saying for a long time now that our coaching staff stinks and is holding Alex and the entire team back.

None of our playmakers are making plays: Alex, Gore, Davis, Crabtree, Morgan and the oline have gotten not progressed one bit this year and most have declining numbers. Even on D: Brooks, Dashon and even Patrick are not playing up to potential and the D overall has become average.

I think everybody on our team is afraid to make a mistake and thus never freed up to make the plays they are capable of making. This is clearly evident with the qb's as Sing has preached ball saftey first over an attacking O that will of course lead to more turnovers but also lead to more scoring.

Its like if at work your boss comes to you and says if you make a mistake you get no bonus this year and if you make another mistake your fired. You'd spend your entire time checking and rechecking everything you do instead of actually being productive. You'd get half the workload done and be less creative or willing to step out on a limb to try to impress the management.

We must spend the money this offseason and get: GM, offensive minded HC, OC if new HC doesn't think MJ can adjust to his system.

Enough of this "try and keep the game close into the 4th qtr crap". Let us go back to the days of attacking on O and dictating to other teams how the game is gonna be played.

Thank you! I think what's getting lost in all this talk about different coaches and schemes is that Alex often struggles to do the simple things, things that have little to do with scheme, like not throwing a pass to damn high that his receiver has no shot at catching it, or throwing a check down to Gore who's 3 yards away but firing at him like he's 30 yards away. Alex is mediocre at best when it comes to fundamentals.

But to me this biggest problem is that he's just doesnt have it in him to test defenses with the deep ball. He LOVES the short little check downs and crossing patterns, playing it safe. I remember a Steve Young interview on KNBR when he said that you can analyze all you want about how a certain progression or read forces you to throw short or settle for check downs, but at some point, you just have to get the ball out and down the field. Alex just cant do that. It's simple not in him.

Now I'm not saying that his coaches are off the hook for what's happened to him. They've done a LOT to contribute to his lack of development. I'm saying that Alex has been given ample opportunity to take his game to the next level - no competition in the offseason, almost all the first team reps, etc...The excuses need to stop.
Most of the criticisms of ALex's play are correctable with proper coaching.

Not all, but many of Alex's failures have been the result of predictable playcalling, hurried passes because of a shaky OL, checkdowns because of no one open, and dropped and tipped passes. Another thing is the abysmal lack of stunning, jaw-dropping catches that many NFL receivers make for their QBs. The list goes on and on.
Sure, the Alex critics can always find bad, off-target passes to point to, but all the good QBs throw them too.

After six years here, it is no surprise that Alex suffers from a wrecked psyche. The team that signs him is going to have to re-build him mentally. He is going to have to learn to have confidence in his OL and receivers. It will take a while.
QBs can be turned around in the right circumstances. Look at Matt Cassel at KC. His QB rating last year was 69.9. This year it is 96.2.

Look a Josh Freeman at TB. Last year as a rookie, it was 59.8. This year it is 88.8.

Is Alex salvageable? Not sure, but I think he might be under the right circumstances. But it won't be here. Even if we got a great new HC who wanted him to stay, he should get away from here, especially from these fans who will boo his every incomplete pass. That is no environment in which one could rebuild confidence.
