It's a poor article.

Should we have got more from our younger guys? Absolutely.

But you'll see the same problem in almost all poor teams. There may be one or two young guys on poor teams that improve. But as a whole, the group's improvement stagnates.

Find one team that is currently slotted to draft in the top 10 that has the majority of its young guys playing better than last year. The only one that even comes close is Detroit.

The point is...when a team is bad for a long stretch...the entire team is underachieving. This is not particularly educational or in any way enlightening.

The article was poorly written, but I understand the point he was trying to make.

What a horrible piece of writing but I didn't expect much from Kevin "Captain Obvious" Lynch. I get what he's TRYING to say..

No he's angry because Lynch doesn't even check his facts

i'm not saying i disagree with our young players not stepping up as a problem. my problem is lynch a profressional writer and he can't be bothered to check on any facts. this happens all the time with him.

this reads like an outsider commenting on our team who really knows nothing about it. if he can't get as something as simple as basic stats down, why should anyone give any merit to his opinions?

We are definitely coached down. You are supposed to coach up. But not this team.

What worries me is that the next 49ers Head Coaching candidate use this season as extra leverage in negotiations. Prior to 2002, I think its safe to say that as Niner fans, we were "spoiled" by great coaching, great staffs, great scouting etc. Once Mooch was fired and his staff disassembled and replaced with Erickson's Band of Idiots, things began to unravel from a Growth and Development stand-point within this organization.
As the years went by, we tried to sign and draft players with tremendous talent or potential but we lacked the Coaches to draw the potential out of them. Fast-Forward to 2010 under Dingleberry....it is CLEAR as DAY that a competent Coaching Staff is VITAL to a teams success and overall development (not just bringing in big name guys to play key positions). Knowing this...knowing that we're DESPERATE for intelligence, the next HC candidate might use their X&O knowledge to suck more money.....we'll see.

imo our offensive linemen picks from last year are doing pretty good.

Anthony Davis has really shown improvement the last few games, shutting down Dockett and Clay Matthews in back to back weeks. and i heard one expert say that Mike Iupati "is already a top 5 run blocking Guard", and would be the offensive rookie of the year for the NFC if it wasnt for Sam Bradford.

i dont know if hes been THAT good, but they are both looking promising. Crabtree has stalled imo, and Goldson has taken 5 steps backward from his overrated 2009 season.

Bajema, Estes, Holly, Johnson, Marshall, Vaughn, Oliver, Hudson, Williams, Robinson, Cohen, Moore, Hill, Grant, Wallace, Balmer, Taylor, Pascoe, Coffee. All GONE. All doing nothing in the NFL.

Not only do we struggle with developing players, we can't even seem to draft and retain ones worth developing at all.

Uh, Bajema, Estes, Holly, Johnson, Marshall, Vaughn, Oliver, Hudson, Robinson, Cohen, Moore, Grant, Wallace (borderline), Taylor and Pascoe shouldn't be counted. All those guys are very late round draft picks and shots in the dark. In addition, some of the guys you named are still in the NFL playing back up roles (Like they should as late round picks).
