He is the olb that we wanted to start instead of ph. The injury derailed him but it obvious he is better in every way...for those of you that wanted consistency....well think if he is the starter he will be more consistent because he will get more playing time to make more plays...here is your new olb. Make the change and let ph rotate in with laboy

Harolson just needs to be let go.

Makes me wonder how many sacks he would have if he started from week 1. He's a way better pass rusher than Manny.

Ahmed Brooks finally got his first start thanks to Harolson being injured. I was pretty impressed with his performance. I'm pretty excited about what Brooks brings to our LB corps.

The man consistently jumps offsides at critical points in games, and then he stops as if the play is going to be blown dead, but it isn't. That's the OLB equivalent to Alex Smith playing most of the game effectively and then fumbling for no reason (ahem, Eagles game). He's still riding the 3-sack performance against the Cardinals in 2009.

Jumping offsides is the least of my worries because it's easily fixable.

Brooks isn't the only one jumping offsides You say that he is riding the 3 sack performance from 2009. Did you miss the fact that he had 2 sacks against the Packers? The jumping offsides thing is a coaching issue not a player issue.
Do we even have a player who plays well more than two consecutive games?
Yes, he had 2 sacks, but I don't like the rest of his game.

At least 3 times Rodgers went easily out of the pocket (throwing deep passes or running for first downs) on his side. Brooks tries hard for the sack, but he does not play within his responsability. He HAS to seal his side, not just going for the sack!

When he jumps offside, he quits from the play. Just watch him. He stands tall, waiting for the play to finish. Rodgers, with Brooks just watching what was going on, threw the ball downfield for a TD...

Summary: he can get to the QB, but he cannot play team defense, sorry.

He jumps offsides way too often.

definitely needs to play smarter

There's no arguing that fact. And it certainly is a major problem.

But let's cut the fellow some slack. Singletary hails from the brawn, not brains side of football and it shows. What was, until recently, a fairly smart, fundamentally solid team has degraded into a mob of aggro yahoos that cannot even wrap up a man.

Given better coaching, I believe the future is quite bright for Mr. Brooks. Heaven knows, the talent is there. And it was certainly on display last Sunday.

I've got high hopes for the young man.

That's a very nice, very smart point. In his defense, it's a bit early to expect veteran savvy out of the young man. Eventually it should be there, but that requires a few dumb mistakes (of which, he's not lacking) and a coaching staff that can put those mistakes to use for his benefit.

I'm eager to see where he is this time, next year--or 2012, he certainly won't be a scab, that's for sure.

I don't buy that. He's been playing football for years under many different coaches, and he still makes the same mistakes?
Brooks is... okay. Nothing special, and would be more effective in a 3 point stance. The problem is and continues to be that opposing QBs know they can hit their first or 2nd read in 3 seconds or less. Why? Manusky's sissy-soft CB cushions. Opposing QBs that can get the ball out quickly essentially neutralize a team's pass rush. That, and we don't get much pressure up the middle, unless we occasionally send ILBs.

I totally agree with this. GB was yet another example of when Manusky does bring the pressure it's in obvious pass rush situations AND he plays his CB's way off giving the o-line time to adjust the line calls and giving the QB an easy, quick read and throw. This has been a perpetual predictable vanilla scheme problem.

Given our backups (Brooks/LaBoy) have more sacks and pressures, who typically only get to play on 3rd downs or sparingly here and there on 1st and 2nd and often times even rotate with each other, should be proof that Manny/Haralson can not rush at all AND in Manusky's defense, he places a premium on stopping the run over QB pressure. Result: Our secondary continues to get torched and we make every QB look like the second coming of Joe Montana. Good think we play in the NFC West!
