Was firing Al Everest a mistake?

I don't know about you but it seems like our special teams is worse than last year! We have not had a kickoff go for a TD in two years! It seems like every time Ginn goes back to punt he is surrounded and can't go anywhere. Are teams intentionally doing this? Or are we just that bad on SP?

Yards Per Punt Return
2010: 7.9
2009: 4.4

Fumbles on Special Teams
2010: 1
2009: 3 (through Week 11)

Special teams has accounted for one touchdown this season, already exceeding 2009's total. While the improvement hasn't be drastic, even casual fans should see the improvement from 2009.

Losing M-Rob was a big factor, IMO.

6/7 of the Webzone was in celebration after he left. Looking back and seeing as how we so rarely use Westbrook, Robinson would have had a much larger impact on the game for us.

Who?

Isn't that a mountain or some sh##

j/k

No
Special teams while not great, are the least of the 49ers problems.

I'd say so. Out of all of the horrible coaches on the staff, Everest was actually one of the better ones and the special teams is playing well below par compared to last season.

Also letting M.Rob go was stupid, he didn't cost a lot and was a true performance player on special teams, not sure what the heck they were thinking.

This! Singletary just doesn't know what's going on!

No kidding?

The whole coaching staff needs to go, we need a fresh start.
I'm not a huge fan of Ginn as a return man--more N/S, less E/W please. But I trust his judgement and his hands, and that's all you really need in a return man. The rest is gravy.

As for our punt coverage, the punting game is simply getting a lot better. Hang time and distance makes it harder and harder to do anything on special teams, especailly with a guy like Ginn that seems to home on guys with helmets rather than scantily clad chicks with pom-poms. The Rams' punter simply shut him down--that dude is a stud, btw.

If I did have a gripe with our special teams it would be with the golden child, Andy Lee. He's getting acceptable distance, but poor hang time. Not enough fair catches.

As for Michael Robinson, Delaine Walker seems to be filling his shoes rather well--while accomplishing something on the scoring side of the ball.
Add it to a long list.

Thank you.

Put it to bed.

I wasn't a big MRob fan at all. You do make a good point as Westbrook is basically just a waste of a roster spot. Not as a player, but with how we use him. MRob's help would far exceed the 2 plays per game that they give to westbrook...
