Based on what you see now, did Trent Balke conduct a good draft?

Too early to tell, but even if we could, it really is hard to tell with the state of the team right now. I mean, pro bowlers like Willis are looking average.

But one problem I had with the way he conducted the draft was that he didn't use the flexibility two first round picks bring a team. If it was the patriots, I am sure they would have accumulated more draft picks by manipulating the draft more. the 49ers had the leverage but didn't use it. Moreover, not drafting a corner in the first three round was a joke. We all knew it was a position of need. For some reason they didn't address it.
Although too early, I'm gonna go and say it...A. Davis is looking like Kwame v2.0. May not have as many holding penalties, but has poor pass protection and false starts and we traded up for a guy who gave up what...7 or 8 sacks already.

Still kind of early in the process but it don't look very promising right now.
I am glad someone brought this question up, for it bears scrutiny. At the moment, one does have to wonder. You have to ask who is making a real impact as a rookie.

Many have just disappeared. Anthony Davis hasn't disappeared, but not in a good way. Mays, Bowman, Dixon, Byham, Williams and Adams simply have not had any real positive impact. Are they simply not as good as some thought, or is it poor coaching or is it a reluctance to use them?

I don't know the answer, but I am sure of one thing: I cannot say that this was a good draft yet.
I think the biggest problem is our O-line. Next year when our two first picks have had a full season and another training camp, we need to see how good our O-line is. Poor o-line play has lead to our poor passing offense, we simply have no time.

On the other end, our D-line gets NO pressure on the QB

For our team to succeed we need to put all our focus on making our o-line stable, and creating a dominant D-line presence (which would make our linebackers to perform up to their talent level. Which in turn would make our secondary look better and be able to make more plays on rushed passes)
Iupati is shinning more than any other rookie, so far. He may be one of the best, someday. As for everybody else, too early to tell.
This draft will always be defined by the 2 OL drafted in the first round.

They were drafted to be immediate starters and have both started 10 games and counting. The whole team is going through an awful year but you can argue that Davis and Iupati are not significantly worse than the other starters on the line. Plus, you're grading them on a rookie curve.

It's a good draft in that regard.
Given the amount of time and last minute adjustments I think he did fine. I wish we didn't have to give up a 4th rounder to get the bust Anthony Davis. Kwame II
Philip adams, and iupati are worth their money.

The rest need to be coached up.

I agree. It certainly wasn't a sexy draft, but they were two reasonable selections. Even if Davis flames out completely, Iupati looks like the sort of guy that'll be here a decade from now, so you've got to consider that to be a major success--knock on wood.

The rest of the draft, Davis, Bowman, and Mays, it's just too early to tell. They're all very rough and showing little improvement. A second trip through the offseason and the tutelage of a coach that can successfully count to three and wave "bye-bye" will do them a lot of good--and give us an opportunity to judge this year's class.
Davis, bowman, Mays are three players i think will be good next year, in fact I never expect them to get playing time this year.. So I'm not surprised at how bad they looked.

Again Philip adams is solid, he came in for a few plays and has looked decent on D, K williams might be decent if he stops getting injured, caught a pass or two last week.

Mays is going to be the best of this draft. Sing the idiot messed with this confidence. Poor coaching
Way too early to tell

Anthony Davis just turned 21 and he has 3X the fire that Kwame ever had.

The kids will be all right.
