I agree that our defense against the two-minute drill could be better but most teams play that same dumb prevent defense but I think Manusky is a good coach. We held the best team in the conference to 16 points. In other words we almost beat the Falcons 14 - 13 if the cornerback falls down after the interception. If the offense can consistently score 23 points per game our defense is good enough to win those games.

I like Manusky. If he could only better prepare the defense to defend the two minute offense, the D would be in much better shape. IMO our D sucks when it comes to defending the two minute offense.

the D as a whole is not having a good year. I have felt the last few years that Manusky has been a pretty solid DC on the verge of getting into that upper echelon of DC's in the league, but this year we just seem overmatched on D and I'm not sure why that is and how much of that is his fault. Obviously, the players are a big part of it; it just seems like there's several players we were expecting big years from that are flat-out not executing. But since I'm not a "football strategy" expert, and don't study game-film or anything, I can't say if that's because of Manusky's schemes or not.
Anyway, I think he's a little overrated but I kind of feel like this might be a down year for him and the defense as a whole and think he will probably rebound and have much better years down the line, whether it is here or elsewhere.

I think he was better when he was getting input from Nolan, but he is pretty average under Singletary. I guess Mike Nolan was good for something!

None of the assistant or coordinators can be fairly judged while Sing is the coach. It is likely he makes these guys play schemes he approves of.
The straight-up, uncomplicated defenses we see just reek of Sing's idea of simple schemes with success coming from individual effort spurred by motivation...
Sing messes with the offense, so he must also be screwing up the defense.

I hink he did a very good job in the Rams game. He puts in a fresh Laboy in the fourth and we were applying pressure without blitzing. After watching the game the third time, the refs totally robbed us. In the Rams final two or three series, Laboy was being tackled and held on about four plays. They were all obvious and not one called. He should have had about three sacks.
Manusky is smart to bring in the speed when the OL is tired.

I think Manusky is solid. Some of the poor secondary play has made his scheme look bad at times; but, I think this is a bit more of an issue with a couple of players and a HC that's forcing him to play his young guys too soon.

[Rams Coach]: Michael Lewis! Man, I thought you said they wont' throw it deep and will check down to Gore!
[Lewis]: Go figure! Who knew their 3rd string QB would be throwing up bombs.
[Rams Coach]: @#$$@%@$%!

How can the two be compared, Sing has never been a coordinator.

Manusky seems to havea pretty good reputation around the league. I think he does a decent job, given the talent he has. We don't have a dominant DL...we're strong at ILB, but inconsistent at OLB. Secondary's not that good...so, when you look at the overall talent on defense, Manusky's done a pretty good job with them.

This! We are still giving teams wayyy too many yards near the end of games, when we should be digging our heels in and stopping the opposing team. We let NO, ATL (twice), CAR, DEN was moving all move down the field with ease near the end of the game.
I think this is attributed to both scheme and our average players at OLB, CB, and DL.

This.
And I think the bad play of the offense is the beginning of the season has also made Manusky and the defense look even worse.

Does pretty well with what he has. The D hasnt let up too many points. The offense has really been hurting the D because they dont get off the field. But I think things will change towards the end of season. Remember the last few drafts have been very offensively oriented( except for the balmer pick

) So I think he sticks around next year

I think he's done a good job considering that he has no legitimate pass rushing threat at OLB and no elite CBs: two of the most important positions on defense.
His quotes from his press conferences are pretty entertaining. He's like a poor man's version of Rex Ryan.
