So sad. We used to have coaches like that. And look at the last 3.

For those of us who lived through that glorious period, (and the 5-6 years after), there can NEVER be an acceptance of this current style of play. The very concept of enjoying a win just for the sake of winning one game, or a few games is so void of a vision to what is necessary in order to really be a winning team. I've often thought about Al Davis' motto of "Just Win Baby," and how opposite that was to our (49ers) way of being that "Precision Machine." We as fans all want a winning result, but unless our team has a detailed program/system of how to achieve continued success there won't be very many seasons of winning. The current coaching staff, in particular this head coach doesn't possess the discipline needed to seperate them/him (selves) from the game in order to perform the task of running the team throughout a game. Coach Singletary was an emotional player, but he hasn't developed the ability of being a good coach. Any amount of success that in any way might possibly sway the Yorks to give him another season to grow is just not in our best interest. I like Mike Singletary as a person, and in a few years he might very well learn how to run a team. However, I firmly believe that that learning process should take place in another organization, and the 49ers should persue a real head coach who sees the game as more than just a 3 to 3 1/2 hour "party."
Bill's legacy needs to be preserverd here, not tarnished by a brand of football where undisciplined mistakes make losing a constant in every season.

I am listening to "the score takes care of itself" by Steve Jamison and Craig Walsh and see the genius of Walsh and how luck we were to have him. We are light years away from those days.

I started reading it and I could not agree more. His whole mind set was so different from what we have right now.
It was so interesting to me when he mentioned how he came up with the whole new system (West Coast offense) out of necessity and his Qb's limitations. Also how he was frowned upon by purists and other coaches because they felt it was not football. Especially those who were all about mash mouth football...sound familiar?
Singletary should grab a copy and read it, although it is too late to change that stubborn mind.

I think this is why there is more parity in the league than anything. The mentality most teams have is "who cares, it was an ugly win but we won." There are a few coaches who believe in "how you win" also being important. Bellacheat and Peyton Manning (we all know he's the coach of that team) are not satisfied with a sloppy win and that's why they always have 10+ wins and other teams don't care that they got a lucky win which is why they end up having up and down seasons.

That's the crazy thing, he claims that he use to have one and ones with Walsh and how he learned so much from him, then what happened? I don't see anything resembling Walsh way of doing things. He has absolutely nothing in common with Walsh.

An 8-year old learning multiplication can have 1-on-1's with a College Math Professor but it don't mean he's going to come out smarter.
