alex has terrible short throw accuracy. On screens, flats and dump offs he simply lacks the ability to place the ball in a spot where the reciever can make an easy catch and YAC. He panics and tries to force the ball to a spot with all his arm strength instead of just saying, "hey guy, catch this!" If you watch troy smith it is a completely different story. he easily tosses the ball to his recievers and puts it in a location where they can make the easy catch and worry about YAC at the same time, unlike with Alex where his recievers have to struggle just to get their hand on the ball and if they do catch it, by the time they readjust and turn upfield, they are already being tackled. Point in case- hitting the recievers in stride is the most important aspect of an NFL QB, something alex smith has not been able to learn after 5 years in the NFL and Troy Smith showed he can do after his first game starting as a niner.
