Shawne Merriman AND Randy Moss in a Niner uniform?

What do we have to lose? Both are officially on the market and potentially upgrade our team. What is more, though Coach Singletary isn't an X's and O's guy, he can take on character issues much more readily than most. Merriman can definitely take Haralson's spot, which would allow Haralson to be a situational pass rusher, something to which he is more suited. As to Randy Moss...haven't we been looking for someone to take the proverbial "top" off the defense and really open up the offense? He's lost a step, but even with that lost step he's one of the most dynamic deep threats this league has seen. It could really open up the underneath routes for Crabtree and VD, as well as force safeties to play deep rather than throwing them in the box and crowding running lanes for Frank. Thoughts?

What do we have to lose? Money, cap space, time, more games, the locker room. Most of those have been lost already, why continue down that path?
