Sports writers say stuff like this all the time. Have you ever read The Sports Guy? It's just an entertaining way of giving us information: "The 49ers were a surefire team to make the playoffs, but now it looks like they won't, and BTW there's a player on their team whose been around the league who has yet to play in a playoff game. Funny coincidence, eh?"
